Wraith's Wreath Theming

Recommended Posts

I think wraith's wreath is mechanically decent but I don't "get it." Is there some clever thematic explanation for why you need a special hat in order to be able to drink drinks? Or why the effect of your magical drink goes away when you take off the hat?

I think the wraith's wreath could use some kind of thematic redesign. I was thinking that maybe you could call it a "nightcap," and it would end up being another stereotypical Klei style pun.

Get it? It's a hat that has to do with drinking stuff.

I like the current design of Wraiths Wreath too much to entertain suggestions of change personally.

But where is the flavor? Are we pouring the potion on the hat? If that's what's happening, why does it say that you drink it? Ghost Garland "is cool," but what is it doing? Did I goof? Does it make perfect sense and it is only I who doesn't understand?

IIRC, the elixirs are toxic (as well as supernatural)? The wreath purifies them so they're safe to drink and have an effect on the living.

Okay, how about you can always drink the potions (I can't come up with an explanation as to why removing the hat would remove the effect) except if you're not wearing the hat it rapidly drains your health. One negative is that if this change is made, you can quickly equip something else for a second without any penalty which is maybe too good? Unnecessary buff.

Maybe the hat can become like a moon dial bowl that is filled when you use a potion and emptied after the potion expires or you take off the hat.

Personally, I believe the principle might be: when you wear the Wraith's Wreath, you are considered a wraith unit, thus allowing the elixirs of wraiths to affect you. One piece of evidence is that ghosts will be neutral towards you when you wear it.

Therefore, the player's action of drinking the potion is understandable.

Maybe we could add some details to make it more comprehensible, or consider it as an aesthetic improvement.

For instance: you can drink the elixirs at any time (by dragging it onto the player), but to humans, they are just peculiar potions. You will feel nothing but sick (receiving a continuous debuff of decreasing sanity).

But when you wear the Wraith's Wreath, the sick feeling disappears. To wraiths, they are magical potions, and thus their true effects manifest on you.

You can take off or put on the Wraith's Wreath at any time, and as you switch between being "human" and "wraith," the effects of the potion will reverse accordingly.

At present, this design is facing the following issues:

①Wraith's Wrath is just an excuse to make you drink medicine, nothing else (ghosts never attack Wendy and Wraith's Wrath have nothing to do with it).

②The development potential of this ability is limited because Ghostly Elixir, which serves as the foundation of Wraith's Wrath, does not have much content, so we now have to consider how to complete this ability from other directions.

③If Ghostly Elixir doesn't work on ghosts, it will easily become featureless and become a poor imitation of many props and other character abilities, while Wendy's abilities should always be related to Abigail or ghosts.

Flower Crown is very charming (along with the Flower Shroud).I think it's a better idea to make becoming a wraith unit the subject of this ability——It means that attack power changes over time, shields are obtained, player tags are lost, the body becomes lighter, and the connection with Abigail is closer....... Drinking Ghostly Elixir as part of it.

Not only Wendy, but other characters can wear it too.

I'm just proposing some reasonable and simple modifications based on the current Wraith's Wreath.

I understand that you have some gripes about it, but making major changes to it isn't realistic.

我知道你对此有些不满,但是对它进行重大改变是不现实的。

There is no updated information for a long time.Actually, we don't know what kind of opinions are truly useful and have practical significance for klei.

I'm just presenting my viewpoint.

Considering that the Spring Festival update is imminent, making significant changes may be difficult to achieve in terms of timing.

Of course, any suggestions are welcome.

New idea: you can be prompted to try to drink a potion without the hat, but when you try, it doesn't let you and the character exclaims "Oh no I need to use the hat in order to purify the toxins" or whatever other explanation.

Elixirs are potions that work on ghosts. Wearing the hat made of ghost flowers makes you a tiny bit ghostly, just enough such that you can benefit from having a ghost potion, but not as much as an actual ghost.
