A hopefully interesting idea for how to handle the Woby skill tree

Recommended Posts

So I though tthis up in another thread but I figured it should get it's own post to get more feedback  on if this is a good idea or not so here goes nothing.

I've been thinking more about how the Woby side of the tree should go the main thing I don't like is the idea that you have to spend 3 Woby points in order maximum badge efficiency as I've mentioned in the past but an interesting idea came to me after thinking long and hard about it.

So as I mentioned here the idea I'm hoping Klei goes with for Walter tree is to instead condense the current Woby skills into just the 5 badges with their tier 3 effect given just by equipping the initial badge but Woby's points being dropped down to 3 from 4 so you could only equip 3 different badges at a time like this.

With the effectiveness of the badges being raised via skill points, however a slightly different idea came to mind but it depends on how many abilities Woby finally ends up with. So my current working idea is what if we still went the route of dropping the Woby points down to 3 like I originally proposed but instead of upgrading them via skill points each skill point you invest into the Woby tree would give additional 1 Woby point and 2 additional Woby abilities/badges. By the end I feel like it would be like Woby having her own mini skill tree that also requires additional training I think it'd be really neat but what do you guys think?

I find the wording slightly confusing, sorry. Is the idea that the number of badges you can have on Woby at one time is 3+(skill points in Woby's tree, not counting the training board), and the total number of Woby abilities you have to choose between is 2 * skill points in Woby's tree? Because while I hope that she does get that many abilities, it seems weird to give the player an effective skill point (another Woby badge unlocked in addition to the one chosen) for using a skill point. I think I'd rather condense some of the other skills on the tree (the 2 projectile pro skills, the number of ammo skills you have to choose to unlock projectile pro) to make more room for Woby skill investment.

I agree with the idea of merging tiers 1 and 2, though, makes it more intuitive.

The idea is that when you unlock the skill you would get 3 points to work with for Woby' badges with the current 5 badges.

Then you could spend skill points to get more Woby abilities each set would be a bundle of 2 badges for Woby and 1 additional point to select badges with for Woby.

To give a better example you'd spend 1 skill point and gain Woby swimming training and Woby being able to dry food to your Woby badge board and the amount of points you have to select badges with would increase from 3 to 4.

I can try to explain it better when I have a bit more time if you need.
