A worry about the "Murder circle" play-style from Shadow Abi.

Recommended Posts

I have no strong wish for against this design. (Though I was questioned that if the necromancy of butterfly reviving is OOC for Wendy or not)

But there's still a worry about it - to make the play-style result in a "murder circle" of butterfly, would this be a bit toxic since it seems like an encouragement for animal abuse?

I have to repeat that I have no strong wish to ask rework or remove for this design, but I guess we may have some adjustment for it..? This is bit weird tbh.

What? Players can kill beefalos, catcoons, and butterflies in the game for healing food and items, i don't see how killing butterflies for shadow abigail is animal abuse?

this is also a game after all, not real life lol.

To revive a creature only to kill it and then put it through a cycle of death and revival feels quite odd... Perhaps there's a difference between this and killing beefaloes or catcoons.

There's farms you can make in this game where creatures automatically die and respawn to die, fire farms, volt goat farms, merm / spider farms, you also tend to murder alot of animals in an average run lol.

I also have the same feeling that in most cases, we will fight against hostile creatures.
But butterflies neither attack us nor have a negative impact on us, yet we repeatedly kill the same butterfly in order to strengthen Abigail.
To be honest, I would prefer this skill to turn into defeating hostile enemies

You have a point, it seems there isn't much value in further arguing about this

Beefalos are literally treated as meat shields for both offense and defense and are resurrected with the Gloom Bell to which you magically bind their body (and possibly even their spirit) using dark magic.

Catcoons spend their 'nine lives' as they live and die/get killed through the Hollow Stump until the stump itself becomes empty and regenerates over a period of time.

DS/T has always leaned towards the darker and more violent aspects of life and death. The game has always revolved around everyone and everything living and dying over and over again. If anything, Wendy's new murder and revival mechanics for butterflies are not just thematically consistent additions to the game—they are a welcome return to form for Klei.

I agree with what you're saying; my previous thoughts were a bit too superficial.
