I've found the best way to handle this is to have two fridges in the kitchen, one for "raw ingredients" and one for "finished meals". Then I use automation so the grill is only active IF (finished meals NOT full 10kg) OR (raw ingredients is full 100kg BUFFER 60s). The buffer is to prevent flopping behavior as sweepers move items into and out of the fridge.

10kg is enough food for several duplicants for a couple of days, so if you have enough of a stockpile the chef can go do something else more productive. I leave the gas grill and the sludge press always active so I can make high quality meals or berry sludge/pemmican (for spaceflight) any time the ingredients are available.

I have asked for similar, archived now. How ever it can be made to work, even a caloric slider % or KCal or weight, etc. I have such an issue with dupes consuming a huge quantity and essentially killing their co-captured friends. It's silly to think they have capability to alter matter on an atomic scale. Yet can't seem to grasp if that they consume every calorie in the box that the 3 other dupes are on the way to grab a bite, won't, and sits there chewing as they perish at the feet.
