Now Walter has the melee dps

I tested a lot of the fights and i dont consider them boring, daywalker, bee queen, frostjaw, CC, all have different pacings than when fighting them melee but i certainly wouldnt describe them as boring.

I actually think after so many tweakings walter combat is finally balanced, because it requires you to master all main aspects and complexities of the combat in dst but apliying them in a completly new way.

Positioning, inventory management, gear selection and handleing, and the special moves given by the frames add another layer on top of it all. There are more things to do because nothing is ever finished until you stop working on it, but i think walter is in a better spot than he has ever been at least refering to his combat.

Idk im having so much fun with ramping up after a charge shot, positioning and also the crazy amount of preparation for different matchups, Walter can be boring if you just jump on a test world and just spawn items and bosses but playing a world as Walter is so fun, you take advantage of so many items and quirks, this damage boost is all he neded and i think he is perfect combat wise, he just needs more fun stuff like personal perks and something other than just slowdown rounds

We did a quick pass to make sure none of the bosses can be stun-locked too easily at range.  Please let us know if there are any that are still broken.  We're open to updating other lesser creatures too if there is interest in that.  I'm sure a lot of older creatures don't have stun-lock handling.

Like make them fall and get stunned like the possessed lunar bosses.

 

New boss they'll shoot  baby small birds at you and you'll take -3000 sanity per min for witnessing.

Thats more like an issue on the game itself rather than Walter, the combat system was designed around melee for entire years. Klei made his combat way more interesting now with all the different effects and aoe, also with making some creatures stunlocked inmune, but they can't do more than that really, like, they can't just throw 20 new creatures doing ranged damage to "make ranged riskier"

My schizo theory is that considering all the ranged things they have been adding lately, Klei will add more ranged threats, theres already many post-rift with deadly brightshades, shadow ink trio, Crystal deerclops, and armored bearger buttjump if you are far enough. Mayyyybe there will be a "ranged update" someday?

But my advice is that, if you dont like just sticking as ranged, the better choice is to play Walter more like an hybrid, fight as melee but use slingshot for the slows, freeze, aoe, electric damage, DoT, or as safe ranged damage when you need it. Pre skill tree I basically played him like this, now its definitely way better, and yeah its riskier because you are putting yourself at a hitting range,  but you can have so much fun this way too.

Of course im not saying "just do dps as melee", there are times when ranged is way more useful, like, if you are fighting Bee Queen just fight her as ranged lol. And some fights are fun even as ranged. But if you are fighting for example Toadstool theres not really a difference if you know how to dodge, and you will be saving a lot of ammo
