why doesnt the ceres fragment asteroid replace the Tundra one

Recommended Posts

OP is talkign about Ceres FRAGMENT. The fragment is explicitely used as a replacement of other asteroids, its what you get when you want to "mix in" the ceres asteroid to normal game. Im pretty sure that OP means that when you explicitely pick the ceres fragment (the replacing asteroid), it should always replace tundra (as opposed to the current behaviour where it replaces random outer asteroid)

Tundra still has unique features. I don't see a reason to replace it, even with Ceres as a fragment.

I like it more if there is a chance that I have both: Tundra and Ceres.

Having both would mean bigger map and i think there might be a limitation to map size. "Replacing" in this context means that the ceres fragment keeps the unique features of the original asteroid too, it just brings own biomes. Here on wiki you can for example see the ceres fragment with the experiment

The world creation screen clearly shows that both the Tundra asteroid and the Ceres fragment can appear.

So, having both is possible.

And I like it.

Replacing anything with something else means eliminating (destroying) the other's unique features and special status.

Yes, the Ceres Fragment can appear alongside tundra if the Fragment replaces a different outer planet. Just to make sure we are on the same page, Ceres fragmetn is not the same as Ceres. Ceres is the main DLC asteroid for classic start (and Ceres minor for spaced out start). Ceres fragment is specifically made to preplace one of the asteroid. It is not possible to have it standalone, it always replaces existing asteroid.

Here you can see it replaced marshy asteroid for example (the one with the hungry tree), but it can also replace other asteroids (but always must replace another asteroid)

This is completely different from the normal Ceres asteroid (not "fragment"), thats just the starting asteroid (doesnt replace anything)

Having fooled around with GMC, I don't think there is an actual hard limit to how space much the game can run, however it gets very laggy with a lot of calculating tiles. For me, this lag is already present on regular worlds.

That's  how ceres fragment generates though. It replaces an asteroid while keeping main thing from it (for instance it would keep Experiment 52B and tungsten volcanoes if it replaces marsh asteroid, it would keep iron volcanoes and tear opener on tundra).

With that in mind, it's pretty clear that Ceres Fragment should probably always  be replacing Tundra asteroid as it has nothing  special about it, no unique critters or materials.

I don't know, I like being able to choose. My favorite asteroid to substitute with Ceres fragment is the water asteroid because I find it boring to explore when I have to do it every game. Why remove the option when you can choose yourself to replace the tundra asteroid and let others replace whatever they want ?

Yeah, I don't  personally  think it's a huge issue, just explaining it how it works. Generally you can just reroll a few times to get it.
