Rework Walters Personality

Recommended Posts

Before I start, I should note that some people really like Walters personality, but I'd say for me and some of my comrades, it's a huge turnoff.

FIRST: REMAKE HIS STUPID FACE.
Please just make him frown like all the other characters, it just doesn't make sense animation-wise, or any-wise.

SECOND: Lean less into Woby.
Woby is mentioned too often, it takes away from Walter himself as it's just "heehee dog!" nothing about his actual personality.

THIRD: Lean more into getting hurt.
I think his lines when he gets hurt are great, it's really the only couple of lines that have something. Like "Aaah!! Ow!! It hurts! Were those poisonous?!" has great personality.

FOURTH: Lean more into being rational.
For a boy scout he's very irrational, and it gets frustrating cause he just comes off as stupid. Let's not forget that in boy scouts you learn a lot about how much things can kill you. I think lines where he says "That doesn't look like the frogs in my handbook..." are very good. It's like a reality check that he's not in the real world and most of his survival knowledge isn't good anymore.

FIFTH: The stories he tells are not real.
His geeky-ness about bog monsters and such are pretty lame. That's about it, more of a personal thing than objectively bad.

I hope reception to this isn't entirely negative, I just think Walter could be so interesting but it's ruined by "heehee dog" and being irrational. Let me know you guys' thoughts.

I mean...his entire character is being oblivious to the dangers around him, he's surrounded by a ton of cool and awesome creatures why wouldn't he be happy?

They are a duo! Of course he's going to talk to/about her a lot, they are always together after all.

How do you know, have you ever seen a bog monster? Didn't think so

He's actively really excited about monsters, it makes sense especially as a boy scout that he would tell made up ghost stories. Deerclops is scary, but he's not creepy, ghost stories are meant to be creepy

Like I said, I find his stories dull and uninteresting with no charm to them. But that's just a me thing.

Isnt Walter being irrational kinda the point? Hes a fear-less boy scout that doesnt find a lot thing to be scary. (except for bees)

I mean yeah, but if the point makes him really uninteresting and frankly stupid, it's not a good way to go. That's why I want it to be remade.

No offense to you, but it is the single most unwanted thing for his character imo.

This "borderline stupid" behavior is his personality of being oblivious to the danger around him, and he gets excited around monsters so it makes more sense for him to be smiling all the time.

Perhaps his Survivor skin can fix this issue for you if you aren't a big fan of him smiling?

But I kinda agree with your take on the ghost story part, it needs to be expanded

Walter is an avid fan of horror and cryptics, him being in the Constant is like christmas eve to him. He's smiling and oblivious because hes happy to be here in a world where his stories and theories could be real.

I mean, if his stories and theories are REAL, that means the threat is REAL. It doesn't make sense.

The only one that makes sense is Triumphant.

Walter doesn't see a threat, he sees a cool monster. Because he has no sense of fear. He ain't the fearless for nothing.

But a lot of survivors are irrational heck Wigfrid is straight up borderline insane.

But her being insane is what makes her interesting.

Walter has some of the best quotes. They are just funny.

I like his quote for grass. I also like his "bugs in my pocket" saga with a bunch of random items like wardrobe.

Winona and Wickerbottom are the only sane characters in the entire cast. Everyone else has absolutely lost their Melty Marbles.

Reminder: Walter is a child, and children in general are stupid.

What's particularly interesting to me is that some quotes give the impression that at least some of Walter's and Wendy's personality might be in small part a act on their parts but not entirely.
