[Mac] horrible Steam breakage when playing ONI (fixed)

Fellow players on Macs, have you also had issues with ONI since, I dunno, 2-3 weeks ago? (M1 Pro macbook, ie running through Rosetta 2)

I'm having a horrible issue after I quit the game - the Steam client goes haywire. The context menu on its dock icon suggests the app is not responding even though main GUI very much is responding - I can switch from library to community pages, my profile page, etc.) OTOH, cmd+Q doesn't work, launching big picture doesn't work, clicking the red circle in the corner of the window doesn't work and without menu there's no other way to quit correctly AFAIK. Secondary Steam windows (friend list, chat) behave similarly, though according to friends list I'm offline.

The reason I'm bringing this up here is because I'm seeing formidable amount of log spam in Steam's workshop.log after quitting launching ONI:

Notice the time stamps - yep, that's 12 download attempts per second. The workshop log file is 4 megs in size.

The ID logged belongs to "Paint pipes and wires" mod, which is weird - I'm not subscribed to that mod. But another Steam user who uses the same steam installation, is.

I'm not up to speed how the mod downloading works in ONI, particularly with the "mod updater mod" in the picture.

EDIT:

• Issue persists after having the other user unsubscribe, and load up their steam account...
• The "mod folder" in steamapps/workshop/content/... is present, but empty. In ONI's data folder, the folder with that workshop ID is not present at all.
• Also - the log spam begins as soon as ONI is launched. Come to think of it, I don't recall the game being quite as slow 3 weeks ago as it's been recently, but chalked that up to a few dozen shine bugs escaping confinement on an uninhabited planetoid.

EDIT2:

Issue fixed by removing reference to the mod in {STEAMLIB}/steamapps/workshop/appworkshop_457140.acf No idea why re-/un-subbing didn't fix that. The mod entry's data seems off, literally every other mod has manifest set to -1.
