Maxil20
First, I want to preface this off with a disclaimer that I am not referring to the amount of content in a beta. I know Rotwood is in early access and therefore has a lot more work in progress things to show off compared to DST being out of early access for years. I also want to clarify that the way they word hotfixes is perfectly fine (Rotwood does something very similar with theirs and I personally think it works well, especially with the developer notes on some changes!) What I am specifically referring to is how they word their big new content additions/changes. Recently, Rotwood got a new beta update. I personally have not tried Rotwood (been meaning to I really like the characters, especially Flitt!), but what I do really like about it is how they word their changelogs. While the initial part looks similar to how DST handles it, the way rotwood does it is in a way I much prefer. For reference, here is the entire announcement post for the depths of duplicity update: It’s pretty barebones and simple, which is fine, but it doesn’t really have any details/info of what the devs intend for outside of the developer stream (which a lot of people might not want to go through to see what the developer intentions of the new content is, if they do mention it whatsoever). By comparison, here is how rotwood addressed the first part of their new update: Looks fairly similar, yes? Both share a similar blurb of text and general additions, with a small bullet point list at the end highlighting the new features (something DST consistently does as well, just not in this update for some reason). But wait, what’s that “More details” section? Well, it’s a spoilered post (I assume to not give people who want to see the new content first get spoiled on exact details), but if you click that, well… The points are vastly expanded upon, not only with why they added the content in the first place, but the developer insight behind it! This in my opinion is extremely helpful to understand exactly why said new content was added to the game in the first place and what the content is directed for. (I also just think the little quips are silly but that’s just a personal thing). This is something I would adore to have for DST patchnotes. Having insight to why the developers added the new content, alongside little miscellaneous bits, would be a wonderful addition to the notes and turn the otherwise cryptic points into easy to understand and process additions for players who are confused on how/why new content is being added. In addition, it would help a lot for people who might not watch the twitch stream or to avoid going through it to hear them talk about the process behind the item, something I feel a lot of people do not and might not want to watch a whole vod for 1-2 specific items. I think it would be a nice bit of support to understand updates, at least a little more. I hope it can be looked into, at least in terms of understanding some mechanics a little easier without going through streams or forum updates for dev replies on specific things! Well-met
having once been in these shoes, I'd say writing blog posts like these (that's what they are) costs alot more time than one would expect. Especially for changelogs Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/160211-meta-can-we-get-something-similar-to-the-%E2%80%9Cmore-details%E2%80%9D-section-of-the-rotwood-beta-updates-for-the-dst-ones/#findComment-1753231 Share on other sites
