Suggestion for an update

Recommended Posts

I played Don't Starve a long time ago, and I enjoyed every moment of this unique game. I am really grateful for all the updates it has received over the past year, and I truly appreciate the effort the developers have put into keeping the game active. However, one thing I really miss is the feeling of being a beginner—struggling to survive, fearing the bosses and the changing seasons, and feeling excited about progressing with my base and everything that comes with it. The new weapons and skill tree mechanics are very cool, but I feel they are making the late game a bit too easy and, as a result, less engaging. Don't get me wrong, I’m not opposed to these new and exciting mechanics. However, I would like to see bosses, mobs, and seasons become a bit tougher on players once the game detects that they have more experience. I firmly believe that a significant refresh to the game’s progression would make it even better for veterans and more thrilling for beginners.

Once again, a big thanks to the developers for keeping this game interesting throughout this years.

Your words are kind and this is well written, however this is also very vague and aimless

the game cannot "detect" that a player has more experience.

In addition, any time klei creates a proper threat people will just flock to complain and then klei will nerf the thing and then someone like you posts this. It's just an endless cycle that has been going for years.

I suppose there are some things that could be a judge of a players experience, a mix of play time, or days survived on a character. This is already done with the skill trees, and it is remembered through other worlds already, it seems feasible enough. I could see a issue with it, for one I could see this not really panning out terribly well on pubs so I would half expect it not to be like that in that environment. Altering parts of the world a player is local to rather then the whole world would feel weird.

When I say "detect when you are more experienced", I’m referring to things like the number of days you've survived or how many times you've defeated the same boss, for example—nothing too complicated, I think. Regarding the other point you mentioned, I believe Klei is able to understand the difference between a mechanic being challenging and being unfair. It wouldn’t hurt the game to listen to veteran players’ suggestions about difficulty. In any case, if people are complaining about a mechanic that requires more skill but they feel is "unfair", there could be an option to deactivate it in the world settings.

But well, that just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I just want the game to feel challenging again, you know. I don't mean to discredit the effort Klei has put into these updates, I simply feel that the game has become boring for me.

Would be very cool to have for example a "second winter mechanic", where the second year winter is a bit harsher since you already experienced it. Same for other seasons.

Now people wouldn't like that, and I see why. So locking this "harsher season" behind the rifts would be a perfect idea. If you really don't want to experience this harsher season or think you're not ready yet, just don't open rifts.

Hope they make hail mix with snow in winter or make summer in the caves an atual challenge.

Like toxic miasma invading the suface through cave openings.

We already kinda have something like this with Bright-Eyed Frog rain in Spring, so I'd really like to see something like that expanded to other the seasons.

Try play with some mods, Caverman+Uncompromissing are two good difculty ones, caverman specially make you value incredibly silly things in normal game, it's really fun if you like to improvise things up.

I really like that idea, but I play on console XD

Maybe one day I'll be able to buy DST on pc, thank you for the suggestion.
