Why doesn't the nightmare saddle prevent you from getting knocked off your beefalo?

Recommended Posts

It kinda defeats the point of the item even existing in my opinion. Why bother adding a saddle that's meant to help fight planar enemies when it feels like every other enemy with planar stats just knocks you off of your beefalo anyway? Don't bother saying "it's an upgrade to make prior enemies easier" because that's dumb. Why should I go through all the effort of getting a possessed shadow atrium alongside everything else needed to craft the nightmare saddle, just so that I can kill Klaus 20 seconds faster?

It's really not that fun fighting all these planar enemies with a beefalo, since you pretty much need to do every fight hitless or risk your dumb cow getting itself killed. Sure, you can get the gloom bell to revive it, but that requires yet another possessed shadow atrium, a bunch of your stats, and can only be done every 15 days.

Is the reason that it'd be op? Beefalo are already really good up until rifts open, so why is it only that post rift content is capable of knocking you off? If you want beefalo to be less useful after rifts, then why even bother adding the nightmare saddle? I'd honestly be less annoyed if beefalo had gotten no new content when it came to the rifts, at least then it's like the game is telling you "hey, beefalo aren't super great anymore, you should swap over to using these new shadow/lunar weapons and armour instead".

you can just get back onto the beefalo before the enemy'll do next attack if wearing marble armor or wigfrid's new skill tree helm

you also still can simply tank mutated deerclops and varg with out applying any buff to or healing the beefalo that you'd be on when doing that if it's ornery and you started the fight with it with full hp

because it's already a straight upgrade and basically the best saddle so maybe don't buff it any further?

also I have to admit I have no idea whether war and battle saddles protect against knockback. I'm getting alot of conflicting info from various sources now.

they don't, but they and rift saddle allow you to get onto beefalo even if it's aggroed onto some thing

Beefalo don't accept food while in combat, so if you're using an ornery beefalo (which would make sense, given that it's the combat focused beefalo type) and its obedience drops to below 50% while riding around it on (something that happens very frequently mind you), then this ultimately means nothing since the beefalo will just run at it's target until one of them dies.

feed it the twigs dish before fighting a boss that does knock back

I think it should provide knockback protection for something like 1 hit every 5 or 10 seconds similar to the bone armor. You get hit twice in a short time frame and you still get knocked off.

It's not even the bosses I'm annoyed with, it's the rift version of lurking nightmares, I don't understand why they randomly start dealing knockback when they didn't before. This is also less applicable in situations where you just get jumped by a group of enemies capable of dealing knockback.

Something like this would be really nice, I just don't want to have to play flawlessly every single time I encounter an enemy that does knockback or risk my beefalo getting killed.

then either don't use beefalos or....

use the ...shadow bell they literally just put in the game...

I agree with the knockback from Beefalo itself as a meta for characters whose weaknesses are completely eliminated by Beffalo, but I don't like all attacks from Nightmare pigs, Gigant Worms, Luna mutation bosses, and Lurking nightmares have knockback. If some of the attacks were treated as "Knock back special attack", wouldn't they be a proper challenge to Beffalo Riders?

I also don't like the fact that Beefalo goes berserk after being knocked back. Guiding to Beffalo Bell should be the top priority.

Because it already gives you the ability to remount the beef

Being knocked down is a punishment for being hit while using a costless hp sponge

Is kinda repetitive that every enemy can knockback players, riders or walking. I dont get why klei dont add atacks that can damage both player and beefalos like the new shadow's wave atack or crystal deerclops' ice stake. But i dont have much hope of having variety of mechanics...

Also, why earthquakes dont damage riders?

You can ride them while they aggro the enemy and you can literally revive your beefalo for free..

not really at first even i wanted the saddle to have a knockout resistance but after a while of playing this will be so op and you will probably just tank all bosses and here is the thing I actually uses this saddle on every boss that doesn’t have a knock back ability and when I fight a boss that does have it I just put the beefalo down and fight normally I don’t mind this because this actually forces me to fight without a beefalo and I think this is making my experience more fun

and the last  point is weird because the saddle literally make you very strong vs like 99% of the creatures in this world and the 1% just fight him normally with the bright or pure weapons

and I think this is actually good to not have a resistance because characters like Wendy and Maxwell and  Wes now have to fight without a beefalo and now their downside really matter more and I think this is a good thing
