Insulated Pack Buff

Recommended Posts

Hear me out. The insulated pack is basically peak irrelevancy. not only does it have spots, making it just a slow spoiling backpack, but it 's completely outclassed by both the Piggyback and Krampus Sack, which can be found far earlier. That in itself would be average, but considering that it's a "Boss Drop" from the boss that you won't see till a full year has passed. it's already outclassed far before you even obtain one.

My idea for buffs that can be applied to the insulated pack are a few features.
1. Increase storage to 12, same as the piggyback. It's made using a the last seasonal boss you'll likely encounter, so make it worth the craft. (Don't reduce player speed either)

2. Utilize the "insulation" part of it's name. Any thermal stone placed inside will reach ambient temperature slower than if it was just in your inventory. Also make it so anything that is affected by summer spoilage increase is unaffected, while still maintaining the 50% spoilage reduction. In fact, make it so that if you have ice inside, all the food inside spoils even slower, as if it's additionally affected by winter preservation.

Are my ideas a bit too powerful? Maybe, but considering that Spoilage issues basically become irrelevant with the bundling wrap, and most will still most likely keep using that and the Krampus Sack, Make it something worth using a boss drop to make.

A piggyback has a speed debuff and a Krampus sack is something I basically don't see outside of long-running megabase worlds, I don't think they outclass the insulated pack and they definitely don't do so within year 1. That being said I'd gladly take a slot increase.

The reason I say the Piggyback "outclasses" the Insulated pack is because it of how easy it is to obtain, and the fact that it has 4 more slots than the pack. You can get a Piggyback in the first week if you get lucky on spider spawns or pig houses. You need to wait at least a year if you start a world in Autumn, before you can even make the choice between the 2 crafts (Unless you get lucky with Klaus, but you'll still likely stick with the Hibearnation Vest).

Having used the insulated pack recently, I think it's an excellent item, especially for characters with hunger restrictions and for ruins trips. It has no drawbacks like the piggyback, and the krampus sack isn't really comparable because of how inconsistent it is to get it. It lets you prepare a bunch of meals without having to worry about them spoiling on you.
