Cruvimaster
Both items are about storage. Elastispacer brought the possibility of "infinite" storage of items that can be grouped together. Icker Preserve Kit didn't bring anything special. It's just a more expensive Bundling Wrap / Gift Wrap that's limited to 1 slot. Please Klei, give the Icker Preserve Kit the unique and special function of restoring food that's going bad. Reiko24
To be honest, I was like "wdym, the icker preserve kit isn't that bad!" Then I actually used it. Why would I use it over bundling wrap? Meanwhile bundling wrap is accessible much much earlier, like tens of days or hundreds of days earlier, depending on your goals/skill level. Bundling Wrap - Portable, 4 slots, can store almost anything inside, accessible as early as you want to, cost is a goofy ahh wax paper and rope Icker Preserve Kit - Fixed to one location, 1 slot, can store only perishables inside (not all, even XD), accessible only post-rift, cost is dreadstone, icker blobs, etc. etc. It really does not make sense for it to be so weak... MasterDos
I played for Varley and decided to use this design for canning. It is really hard to find a use for it, but I chose a couple of solutions for myself. I put one "canning kit" in the kitchen near the cauldrons and decided to store Chaufrua in it. This turned out to be convenient, since the expiration date does not deteriorate and I can take one or two at any time for fighting bosses. At the same time, I cannot cook a stack of Chaufrua at once, so unlike classic wrappers, it is very convenient to put 1 piece of food in the "canning kit" every couple of days. I also decided to use "canning kits" to store seeds in them. Since there is no point in storing and using all the seeds at all (and I only use a specific set of seeds all year round if there are no special goals), it is much more convenient to use "canning kits" than wrappers. Since you constantly need to take a little, then put a little back. Therefore, I think that it is still a convenient thing and it can be used. It should not be unbalanced. Lovens
Icker kits are fine if you consider them as an upgrade to a fridge. It's pretty much a fridge with one slot that allows the food to never spoil. It's very convenient for cooking - you can unwrap stacks of food and store them in preserves and take just a little at a time to put in crockpots. Then cooked meals can go in preserves right after cooking but before they form a full stack - to allow later to be stored in a bundle as fresh as possible. I like using it for Warly dishes. I can take out a stack from a bundling wrap of four and then grab just a few from Icker preserve every time I need them. If I have leftovers unused and I don't plan to use them soon, it's a lot easier to drop them back into Icker preserve than unwrap a whole bundle. Say, at the end of spring I don't need to worry about three leftover fish cordon bleus - I hate unwrapping just to add such a measly amount back and it slightly spoils remaining stacks in the bundle. I also like Icker preserves for collecting food that comes in small quantities. Butter is a perfect example. It's great to have a preserve for it instead of unwrapping a bundle with it every time you're blessed with one. For meats I have one for each type of meat and when they fill up I take out a full fresh stack and bundle it - very convenient. I don't like the look of the preserve though. It's very hard to fit it aesthetically in most builds, it looks out of place. I wish we had skins for it. When I clicked on this topic I expected to see a suggestion to allow applying elastispacer to Icker preserve. That would be awesome really. An infinite convenient endgame storage for food which requires beating two endgame bosses would be so convenient. By the time you reach endgame starvation and food management are hardly a problem. Food is already easy to come by and we have powerful solutions to stop/slow down spoilage - building wraps and polar bearger bin. Non of the solution are great for late-game food storage/amassing. It's a lot easier to leave meats from hounds and Moose Goose rot on the ground rather than going through the trouble of managing your now full chest of bundles of 4 stacks of meat in each one. That's already more than enough for one player to eat in long term. If I could just drop those meats in an infinite stack and not worry about managing the storage space it'd be such a great QoL for long-term worlds. And it's not like the space on the map is limited. You can always build another chest for meat, and another one after that and so on. The problem with hoarding it like that is that inevitably all those chests will become full and too much time is spent managing them. We had this issue with resources and what a game changer those infinite chests are now! ZeRoboButler
Not my favorite for ingredient storage but really nice for keeping prepared foods, I'll still bundle crops but I do enjoy having all the food I need cooked and fresh as the day it was made right out the gate. Pretty decent for boss fight scenarios, I can just set up arenas with certain foods nearby and grab what I need In that moment.
