As an axe, give shadow maul the 600~800 durability treatment.

All shadow maul damage/power just come from image.png.335bb23c42543a6ebf53163720629b2b.png. And remember, it's bonus damage only work if you have been hitting boss 5 times without being hit. If you got hit, the damage reset and you lost 16 planar damage
Without hat equipped, maul deal about the same damage as smasher with 1/3 durability. At full upgrade, it deal extra 12 planar damage.

Its advantage would be in efficiency and not in durability.

Moon Glass Axe has 2.5 efficiency and 80 uses.

Maul (level 4) has 2.25 efficiency and 200 uses.

But the question is: does anyone use an axe in the late game? There are so many other more efficient ways to do it.

Its already cheap to repair.

no problem making it cheaper. For both axe part and weapon part. In a world with multiple people using multiple set of void, having enough repair kit for all is a hard thing.

Yes, killing toad, a quick chop for log (repair boat, make campfire (for winter heat or raw meat cooking), make new boat) instead of walking back to base for wood. Having 1 stack of wood with you is fine, but if not, pick/axe or any type of axe is a good thing to get fast wood.

When sailing you can just dock nearby and chop closest tree. When caving you can chop mushroom for both temporary healing and wood/fire. And when base out of wood and there are no wood farmer around, people have to use gold axe to get their wood.

Maxwell/Woodie/Winona already can mass farm wood without much loss, why not allow other to be able to farm log without the need of wood farmer around. 200 durability is too little for maul to be used as casual wood farming tool.

depends, do you have a better idea for chopping down specific palmcone trees? That's about my primary use for axework in late game.
