Lunar Wurt vs. Shadow Wurt - pros and cons?

Recommended Posts

There seems to be a design choice in Skill Trees lately, where Shadow Alignment tend to be more Early to Mid game focused and a bit underpowered but easy and low cost, while Lunar Alignment seems to be more End game focused, and more powerful but require CC defeat. Like Winona for example, the Charlie route has a super cheap super easy recipe for the rose googles and you can use nightmare fuel, an early resource, as fuel for generators, also being able to get Pure Horror pre-FW/Shadow Rifts, for early planar dmg. But the Wagstaff route is overall stronger, more resource efficient (on the long run), more specific (as in you can decide where Teletrans-port stations are placed rather than preexisting Wormholes) but of course they require CC defeat as basically everything is blocked before that point. making the best strategy to start with shadow alignment and then changing at Celestial Portal to Lunar as you enter endgame.

I say it is a recent design choise because this doesn't reeeally apply to Wilson, Willow, Wolfgang, Wigfrid or Wormwood (he can't choose anyway)

Though there's an argument to be said about Woodie and Wormwood as Shadow alignment also seems more useful in early game for Wereforms and lunar taking it's place as you turn on Moonstorms event, and Wormwood's skills being too Brightshade set centered.

He is a good source but not effective enough to amass the materials needed and when you beat him you need to wait for him to appear in the junkyard then beat him again so he can go back to the caves and vice versa it is effective but not enough

And i think by the time you have a good amount of pure horror you probably won't use it a majority of times since the mob your fighting is most likely dead by the time your merms convert to shadow merms unless it's a boss that has Aoe attacks/attacks that can kill them which speeds up that process

Examples of bosses

(celestial champion,deerclops/mutated deerclops,bearger/armored bearger, the twins dashing, fuel weaver, toadstools jump shockwave when he hits a certain health threshold)

Lastly, some when beating nightmare werepig use the materials to craft the full dreadstone armor with construction amulet or the full cost of it, if crafted through the construction amulet way the pure horror that remains is helpful for the merms but again the mob that is being fought has already passed away plus if none of the merms didnt die or some it's not worth using pure horror to enhance none to some merms due to the time that they have when buffed with it despite the shadow merms being loyal until they die (which is amazing honestly)

Use the horror from werepig to make the shadow slinger, infinite planar buffing.

also unrelated, but you can punch your shadow merm followers to remove them from your party like Maxwell's shadows. (note, may cause in-fighting)

The amount of times I misclicked on my merms for them to beat up each other when I dont want them to but at least I get nightmare fuel back

The dreaded mud slinger doesn't provide any planar damage to the merms only the pure horror does when used only when they are the shadow merms

Only the lunar slinger provides merms with planar damage when they mutate on the turf, the shadow slinger makes it so you and your merms have a 50% chance to spawn shadow tentacles on the turf when you attack mobs which is amazing :wilson_dorky:
