Ambient temperature visualization

Recommended Posts

I like how ONI displays world information in a visual form: high oxygen pressure looks denser than low pressure, high radiation spawns small green hexagons, plants wilting, etc.

I would like to see another similar indicator for ambient temperature: low temperatures could display frosty patterns on the background, while hot areas could make the background rock scorched and broken, like in hot, dry seasons

It actually does (in gasses at least) but it’s subtle. In high temps there are little red dots moving up and left, wheras in cold the dots are blue and move down and right.

Head into sandbox mode and compare hot hydrogen to cold and you can see for yourself :)

looks like this:

Cold oxygen                                                                      "Room Temperature" Oxygen                                                        Hot Oxygen

I mean that still is pretty generalistic. It is not always immediately apparent either, I'd say. It could be mildly more difficult to gauge in a elongated one tile wide ladder hole. Like the dupes go around saying 'chilly surroundings' but with no precise way to measure we are still left guessing. Was it one tile? Does it mean the entire base? Are the dupes asphyxiating?
