there are 3 main colors...

I think you'll find my definition of 'main' obviously extended to the other 3 as well. If I were referring to red blue and yellow exclusively, surely I would have used the term 'primary' colors.

then what you said does not make sense, since those other colors are not "main" or "primary", I just responded to what you wrote. Your definition is not the definitive truth, and the true definition actually differs from what you think.

6 main colors, so why isn't pink a main color? or black? see? it doesn't make sense.

Well I'd argue the other colors could well be considered 'main'. What I'd call not-main would be scarlet and navy and such, shades if anything. That's precisely why I said "my" definition, though again I really don't think it's that difficult of a thought process to figure out just what I meant by 'main'. What I do have difficulty figuring out is why you felt the need to make that initial comment to begin with.

because I cannot read your mind, and I don't consider those other 3 colors "main". People think differently

Because primary colours are red blue and yellow, while secondary colours are the colours created by combining the primary colours equally.

iirc Black is technically a shade, not a colour, while pink is a shade of red.

Okay, let's make everyone happy with the color debate.

We'll work with the 3 primary colors, add Green because PC uses RGB, then add Cyan, Magenta and Black to have a proper printing standard~

There, we now have 7 happy colors to play with, which happen to not be the 7 colors of the rainbow, so we can all laugh at how silly the rainbows are with their inability to properly form a good printing + pc standard~

thats what i dont understand, why do they just replace yellow and make green the main colour instead? like....i dont get there logic

Basically what Sapolover said. For Art, yellow makes more sense as a primary color because of how color mixing works with pigments.

For PCs, green makes more sense as a primary color because of how color mixing works with light.

Essentially, RYB are the "Primary colors" if you look at it from the same perspective as to why people use CMYK for printing.

And since painting has existed since long before PCs were a thing, the art perspective of primary colors has been much more important than the light perspective for the majority of humanity's history.

So uhn... Basically that. From a physics/PC perspective, RGB is better as primary, but for art RYB is better. That's the gist of it.

sounds unreasonable and arbitary system but thanks

To quote wikipedia on that... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primary_color

"Sets of color space primaries are generally arbitrary, in the sense that there is no one set of primaries that can be considered the canonical set. Primary pigments or light sources are selected for a given application on the basis of subjective preferences as well as practical factors such as cost, stability, availability etc."

So uhn... Yeah, it is arbitrary. It's just what people decided as the best system for them~

And as long as it works, all is well~
