Voice chat in don't starve together would be very useful, especially if you could hear only players that are close to you

....as someone who has had access to voice chat avalible in other games i would respectfully like to counter with;  i like playing with strangers, absolutely not!

The first thing I do in games with voice chat is disabling it. If I want to vc with players, I do it by Discord or something like that.

I already struggle with the normal-chat in DST because I am not USED to have a conversation and play a game at the same time, so VOICE CHAT would probably be even more of a deadly trap for me, especially when there is a group playing together and a thousand different voices talking at the same time / distracting me from the actual in-game noises. Seriously whenever I use the chat in DST I am dead a second later. ( @gaymime can confirm!)

 

EDIT: I am not familiar with discord since I avoid it, but I think to remember that discord DOES have a voice-channel thing option, so technically servers can have a discord, have it open parallel to playing and use this for a voicechat replacement, can't they?

yep, discord can in fact do group chat in private channels and in servers. i used to mod for a guy and he had a section where people joining the game stream could join and chat(or even just mute themselves and listen without the 20-40 seconds of lag that comes from listening through twitch)
