xseroqs Posted July 27, 2024 Share Posted July 27, 2024 While playing new update and clearing frenzy levels on bonechill quarry i noticed how some parts in enemies and location design feels a bit unfair to player. In my opinion some enemies and rooms layouts punishes way too hard with location unique freezing mechanic. Room Design and core mechanic of the location: I think most of the rooms are well designed and brings a good challenge with freezing mechanic but some rooms and enemies waves makes about 1/3 of rooms just dancing around one firepit during storm while trying to not get freezed by enemies because of pretty small heat radius which makes imposible moving to firepit during storm because of freezing slow effect. Also some enemies have an ability to constantly freeze firepit which in most situations during storm place player at disadvantegous situation. Design of enemies and their interaction with player: Most enemies are fine, miniboss is okay and Rook is one the best bosses in my opinion but some usual enemies makes you take a ton of damage without ways to counter it. Snobballs,and Colossaphire can freeze you with one hit which most of the times guarantees the next hit if its not a 1v1 situation. And the second types of unforgiving enemies throws out a freezing mist and while arctic stunk attack is not a big threat except when it constantly freezes firepit but elite cottonhail is supreme run ending enemy because if he hits you one time the mist after attack makes you constantly get freezed taking hits resulting in a third or even a half of max heatlh damage. I think freezing mechanic needs to be rebalanced beacause in current state it makes nearly helpless. I suggest that fire pit freezing should be multi stage effect so the player will have an opportunity unfreeze it before its stops giving heat and make elite cottonhail attack to be one time freeze instead of mist to prevent constant freezing. I find that the charm perk works well especially with certain enemies, like the flies that emit light. The one thing I do find challenging is the boss being stage locked, if you are doing a solo run it becomes near impossible to do the amount of damage needed without the perfect roll for perks. For a early access game, it has a LOT of fun mechanics, and for bone chill I think the idea of having frost/freezing buildup is easy enough to circumvent even up until frenzy 2 solo, which I nearly beat. Your perks help tremendously. Ketrai Posted July 28, 2024 Share Posted July 28, 2024 I don't really have an issue with bonechill but I feel like that's because I use optimised builds. What I will say is that the firepits taking so many hits to unfreeze is really punishing, almost forcing people to pick fast hitting weapons like the spear to unfreeze them. Especially when the skunks currently have too little cooldown on their attack, and will permanently freeze an area whilst being really hard to approach, especially if a rock is in the way. The firepits being able to be destroyed makes certain attacks that are harder to control really bad as you might accidentally smash all your heat. It just limits player freedom for no reason other than to offer artificial challenge to the couple builds that have a good AOE focus. Please don't make weapon choices tied too heavily to area obstacles. The poison swamp also offends here where the big acid spitters love to sit out of melee range for hammer..
