So... what's the reason for increased performance in Dedicated Servers?

Recommended Posts

Ideally a dedicated server has cpu power dedicated to it and nothing else, be it by hosting it on a seperate core or a whole other system, while an on the fly hosted server is being run in tandem with the game on the same cpu, often lowering the performance of both pieces of software, or three if some madman hosts caves and surface. As for perfromance in general ive never known dst to do well even the cleanest youtubers running the game have hiccups and lag when playing with others, ive never been on a server lower than 60ping and even those were entirely unplayable, and they often arent even klei official servers

Hilariously this is a long perfected technology that seems to get routinely worse with each new generation in gaming, evn back in the day half life and unreal tournament were so low performance even on original hardware that peer to peer did not stutter or lag nearly as badly as even dedicated servers do for more modern games, cant say for sure why as it probably has an answer miles above my technical understanding.

i see. that makes sense

tbh they should allow Don't Starve Together to use multiple cores. It's not 2013 anymore, we have many cores that we can use...

It is not more efficient per se

It is just MORE

It is a +1 extra computer that only handles the server side of things

It is more PERFORMANT because you have another computer in the equation

Otherwise your computer has to run the server world calculations, and also your client that shows the Dont Starve graphics and processes your actions
