Swiyss
Skill trees can sometimes bring the option to change the character a bit and make them a different thing than currently what it is. The best example I can give is Wendy. Let's say there's 2 Wendys in a world. Since Abigail is her main perk, I'll use it as an example: One chooses a side of her skill tree that makes Abigail strong against bosses. The other one chooses a side of her skill tree that makes Abigail strong against everything else. Would you like to be able to choose between those 2? Now let's say there's again, 2 Wendys in a world : One chooses a side of her skill tree that if Wendy interacts with Abigail in the fight, Wendy is empowered. The other one chooses a side of her skill tree that if Wendy doesn't interact with Abigail in the fight, Abigail stays empowered. This is a very different example and it might sound weird at first in theory, but if made correctly, we would cater for 2 different playstyles that people might have, the one in which they like Abigail fighting for them, and the other one where they like to join the fight. Of course the one who interacts with wendy would be stronger, but I can see people wanting the other one too. One reason for that existing is Maxwell having the possibility to not even participate in fights if he has the shadow thurible; I've seen a lot of people doing this and I really enjoy this summon idea. Would anyone like this casual possibility encouraged in the game also? Now of course, this is just an example. But my main point is that, skill trees could be way more diversed if we can choose 2 sides, alongside the already existing 2 shadow and lunar sides. Jakepeng99
The skills should be niche i feel, and not things you feel like you want all at once. Woodie is a weird example of this because he would be close to achieving. Majority of his skills all work towards the same playstyle, except the were skills but they are really weak and worthless except the moose skills and the first goose skill. The beaver ones you are investing 4 points and the loss of the moose mastery just to still be worse than Maxwell. I still believe his skilltree still has some flaws. Willow is a bad example of this in my opinion. I dont know how to explain how i feel, but her skilltree feels constraining since you just want to utilise absolutely everything. Its mainly not choosing the skills you see bad. You can still get both the bernie and spell affinities if you go heavy on spells, but if you get burning bernie you cant get both affinities. Burning bernie skill is worthless, you get the best from bernie with the heavy spell route. I wish it was better balanced between spells, bernie and utility. Wurt is good. If you want to utilise the wetness stuff, you choose them, along with maybe mosquito stuff. Ect. Wigfrid is kinda okish too. Sometimes you might want to try beefalo stuff, sometimes not. It still has some holes though. Mike23Ua
Honestly? No not at all.. I think Klei has spent far far too much time reworking characters, re-reworking characters, tweaking the reworking of characters, adding skill trees (rework part 3) to characters, and then.. Tweaking thebskill tree based on fan response. It makes the rest of the game painfully boring and not “up to date” with the stuff they’ve spent all their time working on (mostly reworks and skill trees) I think there needs to be a point where they’re just “Done” reworking characters.. But what SHOULD happen is if a game content update can benefit or hinder a characters personality or gameplay then by all means it Should. Example: Water Logged update added sea striders that gave Webber Ocean Spiders, made everyone else’s life worse. Imagine a new sea mob “Screaming Banshee” Old characters can’t “hear” her so they’re unaffected (Young Wanda can, Old Wanda can’t) Woby would become restless & go bonkers (dog whistle) WENDY however would be tormented by the eternal screams of these restless undead spirits and she would need to take extra steps (like bringing them ghostly trinkets or whatever) to appease their restless cries. (not much different from two or three players dying and then just floating around as a ghost so it drains other players sanity faster) So the TL:DR- Stop doing character reworks and skill trees that only impact playing as that one specific character, start doing content updates that can greatly benefit or hinder characters on a “Per Update” basis. Wurts Lunar Mutated Merms should NEVER have been a character exclusive buff for her. BezKa
I'd prefer characters had more variety in relation to each other, instead of creating ways to split the same character in different ways. Fair enough. But it's not that way currently, it feels like they're leaning more and more into a broad spectrum than being like Wormwood The Farmer or Winona The Builder etc.. readkey
Honestly I think most skill trees for now give players 2 or more ways to play the same character, but whether the players want to experiment on them is another thing.
