New Ice-maker are quite good

Recommended Posts

After some testing I`he checked new Ice-maker rates. It takes 15 seconds to cool 60kg of water  to 5С. Thats mean 4.179*5*60/15 = 83.5kDTU per second. And it creates 16kDTU per second, meaning it deletes 67.5 kDTU.

For comparison: AETN deletes 80 kDTU per second. Wheezewort in hydrogen deletes only 12 kDTU per second

This makes Ice-maker actually good early game cooling option. It doesnt need high-tech materials like hydrogen, steel or plastic, it could be built where it needed and in any numbers. Thats will be really helpful at any asteroid, not only at new one...

Thanks for info. Now if only we had some automated way to use Ice for cooling, apart from chaining dupes to Ice-E fans or building ice temp shift plates in hot water reservoir.

Debris exchanges heat with tile they lie on. Ice on metal tiles melt quite fast...

Both power and cooling increased 4x, 60W to 240W and 20kdtu to 80kdtu respectively. Working amount changed from 30kg to 60kg. They really should be run in a puddle of liquid to prevent overheating, you can use that same puddle to melt the ice. Building shift plates or a conveyor line is not needed, storage bins with a small limit work just fine.

Build on left has dupes load bins. Build on right has sweeper do it instead. Ladders keep dupes out of the water to prevent soggy feet and new toasty surroundings mechanic. In this test, a warm sweater was sufficient to prevent the dupe from getting toasty in the oxygen but not the water.

I used to do this kind of build for the hell of it back in the pre official release. There was a button to dump ice out of the ice makers without dupe interaction, which got removed at some point. I would periodically press the button because it was a quick and dirty build and I couldn't be assed to redo nice and neat.
