I think Scalemail needs a buff so I modded it

I wanted to make scalemail more relevant

so I buffed it to reflect damage
30 against any enemy
3x against bees

I think it satisfies my need to get rewarded for reaching certain milestones
and BQ was more fun since I find 5 panflute method icky

Do you think that such buff is underwhelming or crosses a line?

do you realise that most characters have own methods for BQ these days and you could only use 1-2 flutes for p2 and no flutes for p3 and p4?

it seems like just a forced BQ counter, idk what'd you use it for except BQ, maybe it could ignite things on every 3rd hit like bramble husk, get repaired near heat sources, have insulation, do fire AoE and cool the player down when fighting when overheating, sometimes spawn lavaes that jump once like gestalts, create 3 lines of fire slightly to the side and in front of the player after attacking at the cost of temperature if above 10 degrees etc., could get a lot of concepts, just not sure about what'd be fun

but how does that contribute to scalemail or characters that could use buffed variant?

When I fought that boss as Wilson and Wortox I felt pure joy honestly
because those 2 don't have powerful offensive abilities like others
and Wortox synergizes with it especially well
(and I don't wanna hear about bramble husks because it takes wormwood and I made that mod for solo experience
+having your power budget locked behind having another person sucks, when there are solo anime protagonist characters like Maxwell and Wanda)

and is it forced?
it's sure another alternative tactic for those who can't handle that boss very well in comparison to others.
When it comes to other uses in it's buffed state then you have got:
The easiest hound fortress fight ever, clearing up splumonkeys out of spite and niche working with lava ponds

Your ideas are cool, but you have mentioned you don't feel like changes are necessary because majority of (but not all) characters can deal with a lot of stuff very well on their own anyway
so I understand your POV why you feel like this change feels forced

i think a "rage mechanic" would be fitting to this armor.

When you have low health you get some boosts and the character will be engulfed by flames for that time.

i didn't mean that changing it is bad because of that, i meant that you could use other strats when playing as most characters without the mod, wendy has abigail, willow has lunar fire, igniting everything nearby and bernie, wormwood has bramble husks, wortox gets souls, wolfgang, wanda and warly are better at using flute method, woodie has some moose strats, WX has shock circuits, winona has catapults, wickerbottom has tentacles, maxwell has shadow prison, wigfrid's scare song, webber and wurt's minions etc.

i meant that it was forcefully made useful against BQ, there doesn't seem to be a reason for it dealing x3 damage to bees except BQ

The 3x damage reflection against bees feels a bit weird and specific. But that being said, I definitely prefer adding universal solutions to things like BQ's boss fight instead of just making everyone a combat character. Much more organic, more interesting, and less blatantly power creep.

Okay but for realsies! I personally see BQ as step 2 and more difficult boss than dragonfly (Though depends on who you play I guess)
and since Scalemail is good at panicking hordes with fire I made a connection that it could serve as reward for beating 27k HP boss
that counters what BQ is good at (spamming with hordes, forcing you to take damage, removing kiting and making your basics more difficult to land)

So that's the "progression" I imagine
and as much as I agree it feels weird because it's effectiveness ain't directly implied like shadow vs lunar dynamic
though it can make sense if you think about it imo

I just looked at the recipie for making scalemail and I don't know but requiring 3 pigskins seems a bit too much for me for something that has worse damage protection than a log suit and can easily start unwanted wildfires.

Oh let me explain why this armor is like this!
Scalemail isn't meant to be equipped alone, because it's lesser damage absorption extends it's longevity at expense of head gear
So that's a good thing in context of BQ fight since beekeeper hats have tons of durability

And wildfires are only dangerous to saplings, grass and flowers and to lesser extend trees (they have harder time catching fire)
but Bee Queen biome is quite empty anyway so you can have a blast with it there (at cost of some flowers though, but you can dig up important stuff)
