Which characters struggle the most with each season?

Recommended Posts

So I've a plan in mind to do a few runs with each world being locked to an eternal season, to make things more interesting I wanted to use characters whose downsides or bonuses are least suited to the season, WX taking rain damage and having early game sanity and hunger trouble seems like he'd probably have the hardest time in spring and it would be difficult for any other survivor to equal that difficulty. So I'm curious to hear opinions on which season is the hardest on which survivor especially from players experienced with each characters rework as i still am not familiar with more than wendys reworks.

I don't like playing Wormwood in winter because of how it makes bloom go down constantly. He definitely suffers more from winter than a standard character.

I wouldn’t say wormwood struggles because of that. Bloom is a bonus to his character. Not being in bloom means he’s pretty much just has default stats which really isn’t struggling. Also keeping bloom up is easy even in winter. Spoiled fish, glommer goop, compost wrap, and especially growth formula starter are all easy to acquire in bulk before the end of the first year.

I honestly dont think willow struggles that much with winter despite her insulation penalty and freezing causing her to go insane. She can always hold Bernie for extra insulation. Ever since her skill tree, she can easily burn a tree without burning everything to the ground around it and she can summon fireballs. Her going insane easily from freezing might suck if you dont want to deal with the insanity distortion but Bernie actively incentivizes her to stay insane. The one thing I can say winter can really get to her is in caves due to caves being colder and requiring you to use a lightsource.

A character I do think struggles a lot with winter is Wurt, especially if you haven't rushed to lunar island yet. One of your main sources of healing: butterflies are gone. Berry bushes wont regrow. Winter complicates merms respawning. For subsequent winters I can imagine she can handle winter better assuming you get the heat fish to warm you up and dragonfruits or other better foods for healing.

You can still burn a light flower for warmth, or anything flamable really, since you can just put the fire out before it completely burns up.

I was actually thinking of Wolfgang as the winter pick, seeing as he has the higher sanity drain from darkness and monsters, but then his favourite food is potatoes which are a winter crop, and with plants like berry bushes not regrowing and bees not being active it incentivizes hunting for food which would be easier with wolfgangs increased speed and damage but it would be harder to keep mightiness high with less food overall

Strangely Willow actually really thrives in winter despite her insulation nerf her having a basically infinite lighter, being able to summon draws stars, and being immune to fire completely counter the season she's even my ideal pick for winter stars

Yeah that was my thinking, freezing easier isn't much of a downside when you can set the nearest tree on fire and put it out before it becomes charcoal if you want. Meanwhile Wolfgang also freezes easier when wimpy and with winter being a bit more of a food short season being wimpy to save on hunger would be not the worst idea.
