Sesekriri
I think the Wurt and especially Winona skill trees are the best skill trees so far. They are both incredibly transformative in terms of playstyle in a way I don't think any of the previous ones have been, aside from maybe Willow. There are obviously problems, and I think the fact that some of the skills straight up don't work is obviously very disappointing, but the quantity of brand new content we get with each is pretty huge! Would I have liked swimming on Wurt? Or new types of merms? Of course, but reasonably this is a great change. What am I missing? I am not that knowledgeable about the game, so what about these updates do you think is so flawed to merit this response? Arcwell
This is normal for Klei forums, dw. Doesn't mean the update is bad, just means we want to see it keep improving. Theukon-dos
A skill tree being "transformative" implies that it alters how you play the game in some way. Which these ones really don't. Before her skill tree, Winona was the catapult character. You set up your generators and catapults, and went to town with them. After her skill tree, she's still the catapult character. She just does that a good bit better now. Her skill tree just doesn't alter how you actually play her. It just makes her better at the things she was already good at with a couple exceptions. As foe why people are complaining so much about it. Well I'd wager it varies from person to person. Though for me, it's mostly just pent-up frustration. I'm not sure how long you've been playing. But Don't Starve Together is fairly old as far as Multi-player games go. It's nearly a decade old, and I've been playing for nearly 8 years. And while it should be completely expected for a game like DST to change over all that time. Over the last few years, Klei has really been focusing on making the game more-begginer friendly for mass-appeal. But at the cost of the parts of the game that attracted players like me in the first place. Skill trees are the best example here. They're very explicitly meant to give characters a huge power boost so they die less. But dying is the fun part of the game. The catharsis of breaking record after record on your day counter. Of making it past obstacles that previously bottlenecks you for hours. That's the part of the game that I felt in love with, but is also the part that it feels like Klei's trying to bury. If you're one of the newer players that came because of said changes, then congratulations. No, really, I'm glad you found a game that resonates with you so well. I just wish the game I fell in love with didn't have to die for it. I love the old DS-A New Reign time. Hell, even the Forge and Gorge for creating this sense of foreboding danger that there is more to the Constant than just illogical mobs and magic. But now look at what we got. Mostly empty islands for over 5 years and counting, clunky as hell boating/sailing mechanics, bright colored stuff that doesn't suit the earlier settings, etc. Not to mention it took such a long time for the plot to advance in Return of Them arc because of the ocean problems. And of course there's the Wagstaff and Daywalker plots. Why the need of a (rather comical) recurring boss to be fought? Who the hell knows. I just wish the game I fell in love with didn't have to die for it. I think it's partly because the mindset of the community has changed over the years moving away from wanting to experience the game through trial and error to just having a more relaxed experience where we're more in control of our experience with little to no worries. Klei definitely had a hand in this even before they started leaning hard in this direction. I do feel mixed because the new things can be fun but as you said alot of the appeal of dst is lost in this powercreep both in character powers and how we deal with the world.
