All characters reading SOME wicker books

What if, similarly to Maxwell and Wurt, every character could read SOME wicker books or have special effects when reading every book?

Heres a list of some things i think characters could read or what effects they may give.

These characters require the sanity the books cost in order to be used, like uncompromising mode. This means you cannot spam them at 0 sanity.

= Maxwell (Nerf) =

Spends up to 33 MAX health per cast.

 

= Wurt =

- Fisherman's guide (-333 sanity)

- On tentacles (-66 sanity)

- Rain rituals (-66 sanity)

 

= Wormwood =

- Grumble bee book (-150 sanity)

- Sivil culture (-150 sanity)

- Both gardening books, (-150 sanity), with the bonus affect of accellarating his bloom by 1 stage.

 

= Willow =

- The end is nigh! (-33 sanity)

- Pyrotechnics (-999 sanity)

 

= Woodie =

- Applied sivilculture (-66 sanity)

- Lunar grimoire (-333 sanity), with the bonus effect of turning him into a werecreature, no matter the affinity.

 

= Wanda =

- Lunar grimoire (-120 sanity, with the bonus effect of aging her 8 points.)

- Sivilculture (-120 sanity, 8 points)

- Gardening books (-120 sanity, 8 points)

Ect, ill think of more later.

Is this a catastrophic idea or something that could be fun?

the bookshelf is like the only reason she's even swappable for other characters, just having her repair books in inventory would be better.

or even, maybe, only wicker could access the bookshelf.

This was originally a comment on the current Maxwell reading Wickerbottom's books poll and a potential solution to prevent Wickerbottom from being a swap character, but ultimately this suggestion fits better here.

 

Possibly an incredibly bad take, but what if they remove the bookcase ability to repair books overtime. Instead make it so Wickerbottom can interact with the bookcase to "tend" to the books, which repairs them all at double/triple the current rate for a day and then stops until she performs the action again. 

 

Lessen the strength of Maxwell reading them, and give all characters a way to interact with the books with smaller, more supportive effects (for instance, applied horticulture making it so the next 3 crops you tend to will automatically grow a stage or something). Add some supportive books that are meant to be interacted with by all survivors (more than just sanity, like Wurt). Maxwell would still be better than most with them, but not better than Wickerbottom. Make it so books can go to 0% without being destroyed, so Wickerbottom can repair it using the tend function mentioned above (could be reserved for a skill on her skill tree, but I'd make it an earlier one to unlock so that she doesn't constantly have to make more books from players over-reading)

 

Finally, give Wickerbottom the ability to lock a bookcase making it the "restricted section", which only Wickerbottom can access. This way, she can make a bookcase for the camp to interact with as needed and really make her a librarian, while still being able to have her personal collection. She would be the best at reading the books, so she needs some way of preventing the more selfish players from just using books on cooldown.

Probably because even though anyone can pick up morning glories and Abigail’s flowers… no one can use them unless they’re Wendy?

Why does Wickerbottom have to have literally everything she can do also accessible by Maxwell? I legit don’t get it..

And if it’s because Maxwell himself is trash without her books, then maybe consider buffing what Maxwell can do with the Codex Umbra in his Skill Tree? And I’m not just talking about shadow servant worker clones of himself, give the guy some genuinely cool stuff, like I don’t know… there was once a “Glitch” in the game that turned Wilson into one of his shadows, and I just feel like the guy carrying around the book that creates the things in the world were in, should be able to do something like create Decoys of himself or Wilson to bait enemies into attacking the decoys instead of him or the real Wilson, basically.. 

What this entire community seems to be saying is Without access to Wickerbottoms ENTIRE ability set, Maxwell is trash.

However, I do fully expect Wurt (who can actually read some of Wickerbottoms books) to get a Murm & Pig Juliet type story book in her skill tree that Wicker Can craft, but she can read to I don’t know… maybe make pigs & Merms live together in harmony? it’s just an idea..

Point is- It should be one specific book, not Wickerbottoms ENTIRE ability set.

And having said that… maybe Klei could give wicker some more stuff that isn’t tied exclusively to her books? She does have the fiery pen after all.. but if it absolutely HAS to be books, then it would be cool if she got something like idk the Necronamicon (a skin she has for her books by the way) but instead of being a skin, it should’ve actually been a functioning book, capable of resurrecting the dead (like WANDAs Second Chance clock or Wigfrids Warriors Reprise Encore)

Only Wickerbottom and Wendy (who studied spirit rituals) could use the book. It would be cute Wendy+Wicker only synergy.

Bottom line though- As long as Maxwell can do everything Wickerbottom can + his own stuff, then Wickerbottom is as good as useless.

Shadow Wormwood for farming.

 S Wolfgang for killing stuff.

I won't get into detail but maxwell is powerful without wicker, and wicker is powerful as wicker. This only affects servers with maxwell and wickers in it Or portal swaping, something that I don't find wrong. I acknowledge that people think this is broken but I just don't see it, it simply allivates some annoyances and speeds up the grind for resources or waiting for an event like rain or MOON.
