"Smarter merms"

In the teaser stream they talked about "smarter merms".

Does that mean that instead of new types of merms, regular merms will be able to do more things? (Hopefully not entirely combat, you can just brute force it all via 500 fishmen)

personally, i wouldn't like this. Having multiple individual professions would fit a "Merm civilization" better

improve what exactly? their only flaws are that they are trigger happy when something deals 1 dmg to them and the fact that they dont give up unless you walk 50 km away from the target.

That's kinda how followers in general work unless your using a follower who hates mobs with a specific tag so I would imagine that's not what they meant. On a side note I think one of my favorite interactions even if it's not super useful is that merms will defend Wurt even if they aren't followers if they see her harmed by another mob/boss.

i think that would be inherently worse, them killing everything that looks at you wrong would make it impossible to exploit or drag out a mob near you. punching something once isint hard anyway.

They brought up “smarter merms” specifically when a concern was brought up in chat about how impossible it would be to heal a merm with the healing item in combat. I bet it’s some kind of merm equivalent to the Webby Whistle to draw your Merms to you on command

Coming back to this, it would be cool if it was expanded what Merms are capable of. Like being able to have Merms tend farm plots or trade using fish. I’d love to see a Minecraft villager-esque mechanic where instead of them being new variants they are instead given professions when certain conditions are met.

yeah but having more different buildings to build instead of the 2 same houses would be nice, just generally having color distinct merms would be better
