What would be the benefits and downsides of adding "luck" to DST.

Recommended Posts

I was mining ice and chopping burnt trees when the thought came to mind:

What if I can somehow manipulate the number of coals and pinecones to maximum value? (Same for ice)
Would be pretty overpowered in my opinion, same as drop rate for mobs (looting?)

but.. If I could increase my luck just a little, most of my problems in the game would be fixed, and most grinding for mobs and resources could be cut by a large percentage.

So I was thinking if Klei could add a Lucky Trinket that when in your inventory, it gives you a luck status effect as long as the item is still in your inventory. Maybe.. it could also be a consumable that permanentely adds 1 slot to your inv, and then you can basically put different trinkets inside, each with it's own effect (like winter mob drops = Walrus, sea creatures = cookie cutters, or even the things I mentioned earlier like ice/boulders etc..).

It would have to be a very expensive item in my opinion, and the way to obtain it must be throught late game. But it would definitely make the game feel very nice.

Now, there could also be a passive status effect when having the trinket in your inv in early game, but not potent as the late game version.

It would be kinda toxic because of it making people get annoyed at doing something like killing mactusks without luck.

I think that a quick visit to the graveyard to farm for that lucky trinket before farming klaus or killing mactusks wouldn't hurt much.

It would be a knowledge thing that only the people who know can benefit from it. Like a hidden stat.

Also, I think that Klei could get very creative with it, and lots of ideas of IRL Superstitions could come to play. Like walking behind a ladder, black cat, broken mirror, the Lucky 4-leaf clover, etc..

New problems will now occurs. Nothing will change. Which is why i think is totally OK for some small luck boost to be introduced to the game.
Luck trinket feel nice, but a permanent buff feel off for this game.

Instead:
A food item, maybe warly skill tree excusive food that give luck for 4 days maybe.
A luck giving farm plant. A rare 4 leaf forget-me-lots.
A luck giving fish.

Doesn't Wolfgang's skill tree have luck based perks around instantly completing certain chores? Seems like Klei is open to the idea.

And that perk is one of the best perks in the game btw.

Tbf tho not much requires luck except stone fruit sprouts and krampus sack. And that yellow gem from malbatross ig

I would include things like bat, bunnymen, spider drop% and all similar mobs.

Also some little things like salt formation drop, thulecite statue double drop etc.. It can add up A LOT even a very small %.
I think locking it behind a hard late-game or a lucky oasis lake drop/grave drop/tumbleweed would be pretty cool.
