arubaro
In the beta we got another source of gears but we have very few recipes that require gears. I get that for pubs or players that dont clean the ruins gears can be a rare material but there should be something in late to waste them like wagstaff items (warbis and future ones) using them instead of wires (literally warbis armor is filled with gears and clockwork pieces in the design)
Gi-Go
You can feed them to lureplants or if you wanna waste them on something remotely useful you can repair all the broken clockworks in the ruins. Idk, you'll get a few purple gems out of it and a bunch of bad minions.

Wow what a great and not at all known way of having an use for an item with a design flaw, thank you!
Mike23Ua
Just feed them to your local WX78, if you do not have a local WX78 put an ad out in a bulletin board requesting one. If you have no luck in having a WX78 apply for the job, you can always just leave the gears laying around.. eventually a WX78 will escape the factory it’s manufactured within and while strolling the lonely deserts and wildernesses alone trying to figure out who/what it is, what it does, and why it exists, inevitably being shot at by bandits who see it as a Robot Threat, or Chewed on by a bunch of hungry hounds and left in bad shape looking like a hardware malfunction could happen at any moment, It will be very happy to stumble upon those abandoned gears you left behind to repair itself with! 2
