Right now most of the trades merm king provides is kind of bad. (Especially in a single player setting, but this can be ignored since its called DS Together.)

It would probably be interesting if they were similar to pearl quests.

Heres some ideas:

-> Build 40 stone walls and 40 fences somewhere

Reward: 3 sunken chests

-> Construct 10 guard merms (or specific types of merms if they ever add more merms)

Reward: Special weather pain that summons a whirlpool on water and a tornado on land (sucks in enemies and deals 20 damage per second for 10 secoonds), it cannot break and must be refuelled using blue gems.

-> Plant 20 berry bushes

Reward: Helmet that never breaks but must be refuelled using tentacle spots, 80% defense and it redirects 50% of damage into healing for all merms (not divided, equal healing for all)
