Make a monkey, sailing focused character

Recommended Posts

idk how controversial this opinion is but i actually prefer the sailing in dst rather than in shipwrecked, so it would be cool to have a character focused on that in dst, and a monkey char would be perfect because they would already have the added bonus of not being attacked by powder monkeys, just give him the ability to make the sailing bandana and not have the trinkets consume a slot, maybe also the ability to craft the wooden swords for 1 wood, or cannon and the other stuff from moon quay, but that might be too op.. you guys can sort the balance. (being able to craft the banana boats would be neat too...)

reworking wilbur as a monkey pirate/sailor could work too but i dont like the king / crown design

most people wouldn't want that because there isn't much reason to explore the ocean after finding lunar, crab king, crabby hermit and moon quay and after you explore it, there's no reason to go through it because you'll have boat/dock bridges

first of all those are a lot of things, and the char could make those be done more efficiently / faster, and being a monkey, there would still be some benefit on land, and there are some things that are still only available in the ocean like salt, barnacles and the likes, the char can make it easier to transport the large tree seed around, the character can make it more efficient to use boats than build bridges for longer distance travels, the canon could potentially be used to fight bosses on land, essentially the char could give more reward & reason to use boats (which is how other characters are designed with other tasks). and klei could just be adding more stuff in the ocean

you can guess lunar's location depending on how the border of the land looks, crabby hermit can be found through bottles, CK can be found through astral detector so you only can't know the location of moon quay and fig tree biome without going further than a few tiles away from land, everything else can either just be rowed to because you know where it is without exploration or is mostly useless, klei probably won't add much stuff to the ocean anytime soon because they're adding stuff to rifts and characters, there won't be a reason to use sailing instead of bridges unless it'll be faster than running over docks with a glossamer saddle rider beefalo

Why I would have to motion wholeheartedly against your suggestion is because I want sailing to be better across the board. Why I don't like Wanda is that her perk is too useful. It could have been a universal change and I believe the game would have been better for it.

Considering how much effort a character takes, and the fact that we're nowhere near done with skill trees for every character I don't think we'll be having a new character anytime soon. And an ocean-based character would be very hit or miss as well.

i prefer if wonkey stays as a punish or a way to change your character for a weak one without using celestial portal

like woodie changing to wonkey to do moonstorms for the 1st time, (damn skill trees, they remove interesting gameplay stragies)
