Should DST have a 100% solo side like DS?

Recommended Posts

I'm gonna start by saying I love this game, but I hate the amount of servers lags and all that in my solo world. "Play regular don't starve then" well yeah but don't starve doesn't have a Lunar Side, Rifts or a Giant Frog who made me rollback 5 times (I'm watching you Toadstool).

The good thing about doing this is server lag becomes almost inexistent and the world runs more smoothly but the bad thing is that multiplayer items become useless like the telltale heart or the lazy deserter and cosmetics...I think..? I'm not sure how this system of online and offline works or will work with cosmetics but that's a topic for later.

I know, I know, the name of the game is literally Don't Starve "together" not Don't Starve Alone, and this game appeared just for the feature of multiplayer.

Conclusion..? I don't know if this is a must-be-added or even if this can work in the first place (I'm not a computer dentist) but I just wanted to say this out in the open to know what do you guys think about this. I'm on the in-between side of this debate.

There is only so much that you can do to reduce the lag from the game.

They are just another item that you end up not using. There are a lot of items that nobody uses, just add them to the pile.

I have no Idea what are you asking. Are you asking for new uses for multiplayer items, lag reduction or what?

some kind of complete offline solo game where any online capabilities are gone for smooth gameplay (just like a save in DS), also my solo world is offline, 1 player, and the server one day made me go back a few steps and I died because of a slap of a flippin brightshade (My example to tell)

There's an unavoidable lag from separating the world into master shard and caves shard, because you're essentially hosting 2 servers and you are connected to the server as a client. For single player, this is pointless because there's only one player, why host a caves server when you're on the surface? They could've made it work like single player ds for worlds with maximum of 1 player

solo worlds are already offline worlds. The only lag you get is from the data exchange between shards but that should be that noticeable

do you have lag prediction turned on? because that generates artifical lag

is that or you are mixing lag with unstable FPS which has nothing to do with lag but with how your computer perform. Advised to have atleast 8gb ram and play with the 64bit version

It's 33~66ms of latency, it is rather noticeable.

how are you getting such latency playing alone??? is a local game, you cant have latency because you conect to a server hosted by your own computer

edit. even with poor internet connection from 6 years ago (which doesnt affect a local game anyways) i got 1 ms according to the game stats

It's not latency from internet connection, it is the delay from server to client communication, even if you have the best set up in the universe there'd still be 33~66ms of latency.

the difference is night and day for me with caves enabled vs disabled, I can hardly tolerate playing the game without the don't starve alone mod these days

Yeah, this mod turned into a must, just because how smooth it makes the game. Even though I realized that it accidentally interferes on how the caves work, but its nothing too much, just some spores spawning out of season and rain in the caves on the middle of the summer. But it fixes itself in a few minutes.

years later and people still can't tell the difference between input lag and hardware lag

Thankfully, my problem always has been between the keyboard and the chair.

Yes. 100% yes. It would be nice to not have lag when playing purely solo without requiring a mod.

Plus I only play solo since I have no friends so yknow, convenience.
