Hound Wave prevention measures

So, hear me out. A way to prevent hound waves that will take both a lot of luck early on, and some dedication late game.

What if whenever 3 Vargs are in the world at any given time, hound waves will stop. You can still encounter Vargs on hunts, but periodic hound attacks would cease. As a counterbalance, if you encounter a Varg on a hunt, and there are already 3 Vargs in the world, the 4th will be able to spawn Varglets.

Interesting idea, but I think it could use some work. How about this?

Vargs have a 33-50% chance to drop a material, unique to them, that can be used to craft an item that can cancel an impending hound wave, or trigger a hound wave if there isn't one active. Use to trigger a hound wave would cost 10% durability, use to cancel would cost 20%, and it can be repaired by 2% per hound tooth. Considering how hounds' teeth tend to pile up, that shouldn't be too restrictive unless you want to use it to prevent every hound wave from then on, not just ones that come at especially inopportune moments. This would also make vargs a more useful/desirable outcome on hunts.

Hmmm, not a bad idea, although, maybe a bit more tweaking.

Maybe if Vargs had a 30% chance to drop the item, but it can't be refueled. (Hounds teeth have new use for the endgame with the coming update, so there's that already). I do like the idea of using it to both trigger, and cancel a hound wave. The problem with using the item to cancel a hound wave, you either have to hold the item on you when traveling, or go back to base to use it (where you could possibly have other defenses set up already). Using the item to trigger hound waves could be a good way to still encounter hound waves (or for Depth Worm Farming), so there would still be reason to hunt Vargs after you trap 3.

I mainly thought of the idea as a way for long term worlds to have a way to sort of "end" periodic hound attacks. If you do get to the point of having 3 spawned Vargs, you probably either wanted to use them to farm hounds anyway, or just spawn them in to stop hound attacks.
