Development of the idea with Records

Recommended Posts

In the new beta test, records (vinyl discs) were added that can be inserted into the gramophone. At the moment, this is mainly a decorative or fun function, the only benefit of which is the inclusion of stress relief for plants in the garden (it is worth considering that this function depends only on the gramophone, and not on the discs that are inserted into it). Therefore, I believe that the idea with disks can be well developed.

I think the discs could be cool collectibles that players should somehow get during the game. This will help some players find a new challenge in the game if they have already completed the moon and shadow quests. This may also cause some waves of videos on YouTube in which people are trying to get all the disks.

This may be partially similar to how it works in Minecraft. But unlike them, we don’t need to create new soundtracks; instead, we can add many discs with existing music in the game, thereby focusing not on music, but on obtaining discs. This will also allow you to return music to the game that can no longer be heard in the game (For example, the main themes of characters from the game menu or music from events, Ragtime Cult Remix in the end)

Here are some of my suggestions:

Record "Farming":

Has a very low chance of dropping from Garden Detritus

Record "Salling Again":

Has a very low chance of dropping from Salt Formation

Record "Pirate Monkeys":

Has a very low chance of dropping from Prime Mate. Maybe Queen of Moon Quay can drop after trading.

Record "Hermit Crab":

Play music for Pearl. Place a gramophone next to her and turn on the music. To which she will irritatingly answer that she doesn’t like this music and it’s better to turn on her disc. After which she will give you a new disk.

Record "Out of this world" (Deerclops Theme from Terraria):

Always appear at Conspicuous Chest

Record  "A Little Drama #1" (Mysterious) ("#" Surely can be replaced with some old word denoting a specific part of a play or music):

Will drop from Briar Wolf which appeared after playing the first act. This will give at least some meaning to the players playing plays...

Record  "A Little Drama #2" (Drama):

Will drop from Briar Wolf which appeared after playing the second act.

Record  "A Little Drama #3" (Happy):

Will drop from Briar Wolf which appeared after playing the third act.

Record "Winter Feast":

Will drop very rarely from Gifts

Record "Waterlogged":

Very rarely falls from above after crashing into Great Tree Trunk

Records of Title Themes of Characters:

Perhaps a character can craft his own Title Theme after gaining 15 skill points

Records from Midsummer Cawnival:

Can be obtained from Prize Booth for a large number of Prize Tickets.

Records of Boss Themes:

I have two options about this:

  1. Disks with them drop from bosses with little chance. It's not uncommon for players to kill the same bosses multiple times, so this can be a nice reward for killing a boss multiple times. This can also encourage players to kill difficult bosses several times, thereby improving their skills. However, bosses already drop too many unnatural items. For example, drawings of boss figures or drawings of items. In such cases, I have a second option.
  2. Bosses already drop drawings of figures. This means that we already have a decorative reward for defeating them. What if it would be possible to use the Pinchin' Winch to dip figures into the sea, and after a certain number of days, these figures would become overgrown. After which, when you try to break them with a hammer, a disk with the boss's theme falls out of them.

Dear Klei Developers,

*gets down on knees, puts on puppy dog eyes*

Please do this... please... c'mon... please... please do this... it'll be sweet... everyone will love it... seriously, everyone... no one will hate this or be mean about it.

If you don't have the time available, I volunteer as free labor if someone will just send me the files and show me how to code it... it can't be that hard... and once you've shown me how to do one, I'll tear through the rest on my own. And yes I am mildly kidding about the "free labor" part but NOT the "everyone loving it" part.

*does REALLY big puppy dog eyes*

Just show me how to make them drop from doing the plays, that's a really good idea/addition to the Stage... please... the Gramophone Records are sweet... we definitely need more of them.

PS, nice work on the concept art Deerclops Mika!

Yes it can! I've done some modding with custom disc music, it is certainly possible to have different effects when it is triggered, for example, a sanity aura(definitely would be ragtime).

Having the gramophone getting effects from disc wouldn't be difficult to code, klei should definitely expand on that.

Also, cool art!:wilson_blush:
