IUNH
I absolutely love the bosses of DST. While the caves and oceans definitely don't have much interest, I am not a game creator, nor would I know how to fix the issue. Bosses, on the other hand, are a lot more popular and are generally one of the most enjoyable parts of the game. However, in some cases, I often daydream to myself, "what if the DST bosses got updated?" So, thought I'd throw out a few ideas. First thing's first: I think Bearger, Deerclops, Klaus, Moose Goose, Celestial Champion, Eye/Twins of Terror, Ancient Guardian, and Nightmare Werepig are all in a good position (forgive me if I forget any). To start off, and I think this should entirely be a toggled setting in the world menu, is boss health scaling. Some bosses die really fast if you have a group, whereas others take forever to die with only one or two people. Having the option to make bosses either have less health for the fairness of one person, or more health for a group to deal with, I think would be fit. But again, being an optional setting, you can just as easily keep the current boss healths if you prefer. This would make it so that maybe Toadstool has only 15000 health for one person, but then maybe 75000 health for 6. I did zero math, I just made that up. Antlion is a boss that's fun to fight, even if the earthquakes and sandstorm can be a hastle. But the main issue lies in the drops being kind of unappealing at times. Teleporting everyone to one area is something I've never needed to use, with or without friends. The turf hat is nice, but more or less for when you have the time to be creative. It's not a bad drop, but Antlion's drops overall aren't that interesting. While Antlion's fight pattern is fun, it feels more like a boss you have to fight, unless you'd rather appease her all summer. Bee Queen is the exact opposite - unfun fight, good loot. Now, it definitely makes sense that it's a queen relying on minions to do her bidding, but reality is that it is extremely anti-fun, and very hard to do without either forcefully cheesing or having Wendy and Abigail on your side. What I would change is make it so that 1. Bee Queen spawns 2-6 bees every 45 seconds (number increases based on how low her health is), 2. Give Bee Queen actual dodgeable attacks such as her flying forwards with her stinger out, letting you move to the side (similar to Eye of Terror), 3. Make the honey trail not constant. I'd be more than happy to actually want to fight Bee Queen rather than ignore her existence because I'm forced to use a ton of resources to kill her as opposed to just getting her loot from Klaus. Ancient Fuelweaver - Same deal as Bee Queen. I am more than okay with the steps it takes to summon, but it doesn't really feel like a fight, and more like an endurance battle, as the Fuelweaver has a single attack, and then just stuns you, traps you, shields itself, and heals itself, until you either break through all that (despite it repeats this over and over), or you run out of resources and die. If the Fuelweaver had more actual attacks and long cooldowns on its minion spawns and shielding, then that would make the battle more tolerable, but I think it's universally agreed upon that cheesing this boss is preferable to actually fighting it if you don't already do that on a regular basis. Malbatross - Malbatross is...a boss that exists...there's a huge lack of reason to actually fight Malbatross, much less are his drops useful. The fight itself is okay, but all the same, the RNG for the feathers isn't all that enjoyable (much less is there a need for the upgraded sail if you just have a boat that travels in a straight line to lunar island/pearl's island/monkey island), but like Bee Queen, you can just get the drops from Klaus (which isn't necessarily a complaint, Klaus is fun and good), and hence why I'll get the bill and then wonder to myself why I would ever fight Malbatross. It's not that the fight is necessarily bad, it's just...pointless. Crab King - I don't need to explain this one. Nobody likes Crab King. If Crab King was even a half-decent boss, then maybe I'd be okay with the fact that this is a required roadblock to the Celestial Champion fight, because really, I want to skip this as much as anyone else. As opposed to just randomly searching for Crab King, I think it would be interesting if he appeared to attack you after you fish out a treasure chest, similar to that of the trailer, but you can just as easily leave the area or drop the chest in the water to stop the fight. Now, I don't know how this would lead to socketing the pearl, but I would rather drop the need of socketing gems if nothing else. I would be all for changing Crab King's entire ability set, because the healing, constantly spawning geysers on your boat as opposed to attacking you, and blocking you with claws, is just anti-fun entirely. Crab King is literally required to be cheesed, and I would rather this be a boss fight with good drops to actually look forward to as opposed to, "Oh, great...I have to fight the worst boss to fight the best boss...." Shadow Pieces - I'm okay with the loot, but reality stands that nobody likes a tier 3 Knight, and the Bishop can be an annoyance at times. I really don't have an input on this one. But that is my overall input. I'm likely a bit biased about some of these, but I am more than happy to hear everyone else's opinions. I just thought a boss refresh would be interesting. On console FW without cheese used to be absolutely horrible.. brightshade staff has completely changed that though as it can decimate both the woven shadows and shadow hands with great ease from a decent distance too. I'm going to attempt a no gunpowder battle st some point soon with FW to see just how much the staff actually helps and stops the possibility/ability of FW to heal faster than you can damage him. For reference I've beaten him without gunpowder a handful of times in the past just want to really test the staff out. May be I'll eventually not need the gunpowder at all or perhaps only one initial stack as he spawns instead of two then beating him down the rest of the way.
