Feedback on boulders in earthquakes down below.

Recommended Posts

Them randomly falling could indeed cause some chaotic and fun things to happen, however I don't think it's a good thing to have a chance based thing just destroy stuff for the sake of it, I think it'd be cool if they worked a bit more like antlion boulders but try to land exactly on the player's location when they spawn in as a falling object, that way you would be to blame if something gets destroyed by it instead of it being an annoyance. thanks!

its not chaotic fun its just a rock that deals more damage and thats it

im guessing klei is now gonna add these """hardmode""" world settings for more experienced players though its all gonna be this anti megabase stuff

Beside, even if it had longer warning times or more accurate drop locations, "get the player off base so your base doesn't get hurt" thing isn't fun at all.

I feel like a more permanent solution would solve a lot of the problems here.

Antlion has the same effect, right? Once summer begins, you have to run like hell away from your base if you get notice that Antlion is active. The craters are particularly punishing imo, since it can both destroy structures and prevent them from being rebuilt for like half an in-game year (not to mention slowing down any travel over them if they happen to form on an important path or something). The solution becomes appeasing/fighting Antlion, which is either a time-consuming or difficult task depending on which you choose. Going underground for the summer also becomes more appealing, since the cave-in boulders are less permanently destructive than the craters. Imo Antlion is very fair this way (assuming the player knows where to find the desert). Hell, even wildfires have a more permanent solution in the form of tree canopies.

I haven't gotten to play with either lunar or shadow rifts yet, but I definitely find it odd that there doesn't appear to be any permanent solution. For instance, I doubt the boulders caving in would bother folks as much if there were some task you could accomplish to make it stop, forcing the player to choose between dealing with the inconvenience or eliminating it with a challenging one-time task. Right now it seems like the equivalent of if defeating Antlion didn't end the earthquakes, it just gave you a tool to repair the craters.

When the devs compared the various rifts to "seasons" I was generally under the impression that they would have some sort of endpoint players could reach. But right now there isn't, right? You just give Charlie/Wagstaff the quest item and then these problems become a permanent part of your world?
