Why Wortox doesn't have crafting tab?

DST players when 160 boards, 120 reeds and 80 fish can kill enemies and gather resources (there definitely aren’t easier and cheaper ways)

You fight bosses with 40 normal merms? Making 20 merm guards is much faster heck I sometimes speed run out 30 before the first autumn is done.

Also all true wurt mains know you only build huts for decoration. They aren’t really better than anything the player can do. She is a very meh character but she is my meh character.

Huh?

The two aren’t even REMOTELY comparable, Wanda has to collect a ton of resources and build her crafts, Wortox can literally stand in a biome with butterflies spawning using the Brightshade staff to amass 20 souls in a matter of seconds (faster if there’s a Wendy nearby) Wortox unlocks all his perks the second he spawns- Wanda has to put in a lot of time, effort, and progression to reach hers.

That's one way of looking at it but another way is Wortox has to keep manually recharging his teleportation while Wanda passively recharges hers. They strike a perfect balance really Wortox gives the immediate access via having to upkeep it but Wanda becomes a better method of warping after works been put in by not having to work for it afterword.

Wortox is OP enough as is

I used to have this opinion, and i think you share the same biases that i used to have. I liked the struggle of the early game and it was my favorite part, so wortox in that stage of the game seemed unnecessarily capable of self sufficiency to the point of being overpowered. And to a completely new player to the game he certainly would seem OP compared to other characters. But once i actually played past the second year with him the shortcomings added up PRETTY fast. Yeah i was able to teleport, but i was constantly hunting spiders and trapping bees, spending a pretty large chunk of time just setting up my return teleport, to the point where i probably could have made it back faster on a rider beef. The biggest advantage was honestly teleporting directly to the ancient pseudoscience station after killin DF a few times, saving me the entire trek through that windy cave spawn.

but by then i had also set up a pigman farm for skin, and had effectively unlimited large meats. I literally was eating meaty stews because it was faster and cheaper than three souls, but now i needed to eat two meaty stews instead of one. Pierogis were barely worth making at 20 health, and jerky sucked, but i had effectively unlimited meat so i ate jerky anyway for sanity.

i needed twice as many drying racks, had to spend twice as long putting meat on the racks and harvesting them, and my unlimited food wasn’t nearly as efficient for healing as it could have been.

basically once you hit self sufficiency food wise, wortox falls off. Food is healing too, so his only remaining useful perk is teleportation. And his teleportation is only a pretty good perk, and arguably slower in the long term than WX, or a rider beefalo, because you have to go back to your farms super regularly to reharvest the resources spent to teleport.

meanwhile he has the HARSHEST downside in the game with that food penalty, i would hate to do an actually long boss fight like CC with only 400 healing (800 with a stack of bees) that you can only use in 20 health increments. I literally could instead have surf and turf and heal three times aa much, and heal a third as often, and have a giant stack of as much as i need.

TLDR: wortox is only S tier until day 20, then he’s A until the end of the first year, then he’s B tier AT MOST. You have practically infinite resources to feed and heal yourself if you play smart, all wortox has past that point is a pretty good travel perk

You should probably see my in-game cook book.. there’s still at least maybe half the food dishes I haven’t discovered how to cook yet, because I’ve rarely ever used food for healing. It could be because I can’t get bundling wrap to keep the food fresh, I don’t really know what the reason was but I’ve always ALWAYS Defaulted to creating items from the actual healing tab to deal with my health issues.

Wortox absolutely dominates if this is your normal playstyle, if you already have never relied on food for healing- then Wortox can skip the entire Health Tab, (of course he can use health tab items & still get the full effect of the heal from it) it’s not like Souls is his “Only” method of healing.. even in my worlds where I’ve survived 600+ days I’ve just never heavy relied on Food For Healing.

I actually beat the entirety of solo DS’s adventures mode without knowing I could create things like Meat Effigy, LGA, or Foods that would heal me. Sure I had many many many MANY failed attempts and restarts- but that was part of the learning process and longevity of the game for me.

I’ll always see Wortox as a strong pick for a character, Wanda is obviously stronger with the ability to rewind players entire deaths.. but before Wanda- Wortox was my Go To Pick when playing in other players sessions, just so I could heal them easily.

If you want an easy way for a solo player:

Spoiler
  1. Bond with a Beefalo.
  2. Move it away and sever its connection with its herd by entering caves or disconnecting.
  3. Leave it by the Bee Queen hive, optionally breaking the bond.
  4. When the herd is fully populated and in heat in Winter or Spring, have the Beefalo deal with Bee Queen.

You may want to have 2 herds to make it faster and reduce the risk of losing the full herd, but you can also bond with a member of a herd and leave it at a remote location so it's not a problem in exchange for less dps. You can also help them out, preferably if you have tamed your own Beefalo or have a Beefalo Hat with body armor.

It's also not required to bundle healing food to use it, it's useful to recover from damage while you're at base, or prepare it shortly before you plan to do something where you might need healing. That's not to say you shouldn't use the healing tab items, more that it's convenient to have more options.

I think wortox is one of the characters that could benefit the most from a skill tree, including new craftables for the imp.

Since wortox has these theme of going to all worlds spreading chaos and it was originally one of the og scrap characters of ds, might be cool if he could craft new versions of items like the old bell, the bird whistle from hamlet, the dripple pipes from shipwrecked etc etc. Could be a perk called "Transdimensional crating, may you master the science and magic of the universe...and beyond".

Finally, not related but i noticed all the examples i provided are some sort of instrument and wortox being inspired by a faun, he could have craftable instruments that make wacky effects.

Your lack of knowledge does not make wortox better it makes you ignorant.

i do not say that to be mean as harsh as it sounds, but there’s a reason why people cook food to heal 90% of the time, and why some people consider wormwood to be completely useless. It’s because food is the most powerful healing in the game by far.

you CAN like wortox, you CAN think he’s strong (he is in fact strong, no arguments here) but also: recognize that your lack of experience is clearly skewing your opinion.

as an example.

With 40 meat (or literally 40 small meat) and any vegetable filler (or ice), i can produce 800 healing worth of food, or the max he can hold with one stack of easily obtained bees

Alternatively if i have 10 birchnut seeds, 10 sticks and 20 berries i can make 300 healing worth of food (literally 5 trees and casually harvesting bushes and sticks as i walk by) thats enough for 90% of surface bosses. All gathered by.. what day 3?

or if i literally just have a butterfly wing, which i can easily kill by the dozen per day, i have 8 healing worth of food, or 20 if i throw some carrots in, aka the value of the soul you got from it.

wortox is strong, souls are good. No arguments, days 1-20? Its better than anything you could reasonably have. But if you put the slightest bit of effort into automating food, then his healing just doesnt matter very much. Teleportation is nice, but its not even the best at what it does, and requires constant upkeep for the rest of the game.

The healing and food value of souls is NICE, but he’s a balanced character. None of his perks are anything too crazy past day 20.

i’m not saying he’s bad, but he’s balanced fine. He’s a noob friendly character, not an overpowered one.
