Too Hard to Fight Deadly Brightshades in the Farm

Recommended Posts

I wish they spread out a bit. I thought it was fixed in the beta. It doesn't make sense that plants would wanna be that close to each other. Overcrowding is actually a mechanic that gives stress to crops.

Can you get 4 husks for the Brightshade Bomb to kill 3 Brightshades that spawned on top of each other? It would make dealing with the rest much easier.

Though using Brightshade Bombs is efficient and safe, they will still destroy my base.

The reason why they always spawn so close to each other is that if there is any crops (not in seed and corrupted stage) exist, Gestalts will only target the crops, completely ignoring any other plants like grass, twigs and berry bushes. If there isn't any, Gestalts always tend to infect the largest "herd" of plants, which is usually the transplanted plants in the base.

From your picture, fighting those things is going to be a pure pain.. the easiest way to fight them is to get them to extend their vine out as far as it’ll go then attacking the middle of the vine (not the plant itself or the end of its vine it tries to attack you with..) attack the center where you take no damage at all in doing so to break the vines and stun the plant for up to 8-10 hits.

However.. from your above photo you’ve limited your own maneuverability so it would be very hard to fight these off with their intended mechanics. I thought they weren’t supposed to spawn within Walled off crops anyway, Hopefully you find a safe (non-destructive) way to deal with them! :wilson_love:

I would recommend freezing the plants and then intentionally breaking a section of your wall out so you can fight them the intended and safest way, then Replacing the small section of your wall afterward. Just open up enough space to attack the fully outstretched vine.

Just remember do NOT go anywhere near the plant or the end (attacking part) of its root, they tend to be well uhh “Deadly”

Maybe this:

put a dwarf star in there and try to freeze the vine. Then kill the middle part of the vine before killing the main part.

That's what I've done with my Brightshade trio in my Sapling "herd", although the Flingomatic automatically targeted the Saplings.

I decided to draw you a picture of how to deal with your problem (provided you don’t mind breaking a few walls & repairing them later..)

Fighting Brightshades is Unlike most other mobs in DST, most mobs is a simple process of hit a few times, move from a slow attack, rinse repeat till dead.

Brightshades however.. or in this case “Groups” of Brightshades are a more complicated puzzle/Math Problem you need to Solve.

You CAN NOT Attack these Plants or the arm that they attack with, it’s near instant death in doing so..

What you Need to do is single them out One By One..

break the purple segment out of your wall, allow the vines to stretch out as far as possible, attack one of the 3 center upward arches- when the root breaks THEN you can attack the plant itself for up to 10 hits before it recovers.

Personally I think a good thing they could implement is if they're a set distance from each other one will burrow and leave to a crop a further distance away with a check system that checks for distance daily; that way even it bypasses the minimum space limit it would fix itself in a day.

Hopefully Klei takes more action on these.  This has been a really messed up addition imo.

If you're not going to give players a way to get ahead of it, then you can't make it so punishing.  Its not like this player "messed up" letting these plants get here, they literally can't stop it.  Either change the core mechanic to one of the ones suggested like confronting the portal in its earlier stages to prevent the spread of these vines, or completely neuter the vine interaction so they are actually manageable.

Really not looking forward to how this grows...  My first thought was "at least I can base in the caves" but the next step is going to ruin that too :\

Did it work?

Additionally, if you can clear out the 3 that aren’t so closely grouped together in the way that I have shown drawn, you can craft the new Brightshade Staff which will bounce a projectile between the 3 closely grouped up bunch that remain. Hopefully this helps you to remove your overgrown weed infestation! :love_heart:

Absolutely a clever approach. Thank you!

Enlighten Crown makes a perfect team with Brightshade Staff. I only wish that min distance between Deadly Brightshades can be increased to at least 8 from 3.
