And here I thought combat characters were supposed to be better...  My mistake I guess.

Number of mobs that take 100% damage: a lot

Number of mobs that have slight armor: 1

This is the start of all "end game" content, expect the number of mobs with armor (and 100% armor piercing if you don't wear the chosen-armor-of-the-gods) to go up.

More then that, expect the stats of the sword-deemed-worthy-of-endgame to go up as well after the recent Klei stream.  They stated the current stats of these gears are only the beginning, and that they will become powered up versions through this content eclipsing everything else by a wide margin.  This is going to push previous gear out the door by design.

I understand that Wanda's mechanics have to be preserved.

For her, there are penalties for sacrificing inventory slots, suppressing the classic healing system and always decreasing life (age), making her fragile.

She needs a new planar damage clock similar to the Alarming Clock or even an upgrade to it.

Leaving her with the standard damage for the new bosses (And it gets worse because she has a damage penalty when aged 65 +) and with a low defensive system is a mistake.

The same ratio of damage between Wanda (Alarming Clock) and Wolfgang (dark sword) to the "new dark sword" (Brightshade Sword) must be maintained.

And this can be solved by upgrading the Alarming Clock or a new clock.

Its possible their release of each characters "choice" will server as a mini-refresh to update each character to the new content.  Its very possible that Wanda will "choose" in here to upgrade her whip to be the paladin whip or edge lord whip based on her "choice."

With the system as it is Wanda is best served by either being old age (death range if not using planar armor) and utilizing her whip for its range even though its damage is trash, or full heal to young and just us the BS gear and become vanilla.

I’m thinking the sword will only be super strong against the shadow aligned enemies.

Every character will probably have the side choosing buff to their damage like Wilson currently has which when combined with the armor damage buff + the planar damage mechanic will make the sword reach high damage points but only specifically against the one side, and vice versa for the shadow sword weapon they’re gonna make.

That way the new weapons will be very good for the new arc but not so good that everything else can’t shine anymore for the vast majority of content. I could be wrong though.

We'll see how it goes, but considering the portals are not going to stop and they said "these plants are the weakest thing to come through the portal" makes me feel we're going to be using this gear a LOT...  and it will probably come with enough stuff to overwrite all of the other stuffs.

The plus side imo is mostly that this is a good opportunity for them to give certain characters some MUCH needed touch ups.  Willow's Bernie could get shadow / lunar alignment that lets him grow in lunacy.  Woodie could get planar shifting that lets him NOT shapeshift every full moon whether he wants to or not.  Winona might get some new crafts utilizing the lunar / shadow resources. etc

Oh yeah it definitely has a lot of potential. I’m curious to see where they decide to take it. I know the devs are a bit fatigued on character reworks but some small tidying up type mini refreshes for characters like Winona, Willow, Woodie, And Walter (may be another I’m not thinking of off the top of my head but you get the idea) would certainly be appreciated.

Just had my first run-in with Deadly Brightshades as Wanda. She's completely fine at killing them without Brightshade gear. Until they add more Planar mobs I'm not tossing out her entire kit just because she does a little less damage.

I appreciate you actually testing it out in game.

I’ve been rolling my eyes at some of the responses in this thread.

The level of “woe is wanda” and “woe is wolfgang” in this thread is ridiculous.

I’ve done the math, Wanda and Wolf still do better damage than most characters even when Wanda/Wolf have shadow gear and other people have planar gear.

I’m forced to assume that the people concerned both haven’t looked at the math *or* tested it in game because both of those strategies make it clear those characters are fine.
