What happens to loot that can't be picked up if it is left on a pirate raiders boat?

So basically, I got cocky and died on a pirate raid boat with my Krampus Sack and the monkeys sailed off into the sunset with it on their boat while my ghost just floated above the waves and watched. I was able to get a pirate map a few days later but when I dug up the spot, I got my all my loot back except for the Krampus Sack. So I tried with another map, but to no avail, I just got default loot. So I am wondering what happens to items the monkeys won't pick up if it stays on their boat?

My first guess was that it just de-spawned, but then I started thinking what would happen with other items like the Eye Bone or something. So my second guess was that the boat despawns off-screen and any loot that isn't taken by the pirates just gets dropped on the ocean? Not sure. Worst case scenario I just have to get another sack.

1. The pirate boat either sinks, and you will retrieve whats left of your goodies at the place where it sunk.

2. the boat despawns and everything on it goes into the loot stash.

 

edit - this is really bizarre that your kramp sack was just lost. it should've been in the loot stash

I heard that the X spot has only 20 slots and everything that is collected above that by the monkeys is just deleted. Not tested but but read that sometime ago.

Sadly, according to this comment, a limit of 20 items was added in the winter's feast update and the old items get deleted by new items when the stash is full. 

So your sack is lost forever.

Damn, oh well. Time to fight Klaus again, which is okay because so far it's my favourite boss fight.
