Winona catapults are broken?

Recommended Posts

This hound farm used to work, idk why the catapults won't attack the houndius shootius anymore. If they patched this intentionally that is incredibly lame. I tried using glommer for the targetting and the catapults killed it.

Edit: probably the houndius shootius killed glommer, the catas don't do damage to friendly mob.

Tried using chester and that destroyed the entire farm because of him hopping around when the fire hounds died. RIP every hound farm

you probably should've boxed chester in, that's what was done on an endless server with a krampus farm

Not every hound farm, but sadly some changes were made that I can only assume were meant as a middle finger to people who enjoy the game this way :\

1. Why do you instantly assume something like that?

2. I think it was a change to houndius when Maxwell's update was in beta that it doesn't shoot follower shadows.

1 - b/c its been done before.  They changed smolder mechanics to add some rng for literally no effect but to nix a bee queen oven.

2 - I don't remember where it happened, but I don't see how that situation leads to the change on shootius.

Hounditus has a change that will target things similarly to Winona Catapults so they won't kill each other by accidentally clicking attack on one. It would be a middle finger to MOST players if they reverse the change considering how easy it is to attack on hounditus during fights.

Time for ingenuity to come out "to play" in the ideas background again, I reckon.

I don't know if KLei is actively trying to "squash" exploits, but probably such process is inevitable in a game constantly updated and polished in its inner-workings. Yes, such attitude will end up with also eliminating bit-by-bit the "emergent game-play" KLei proud themselves on (the irony!) - and if that's the case I hope for game's health sake devs will introduce tons of additional entertaining mechanics/builds. Else they solely shoot the game in its proverbial head since, after dealing with bosses 2-3 times per MapGen, there won't be any real creative incentive to stick around with world and either start anew or ditch the game completely, seeing that boredom will happen a lot sooner than later. C'est la vie - bad decisions/directions happen, sometimes "killing" the game/product for various (& often silly, given context) reasons.

This is exactly the change, for reference. Previously If you accidentally hit a houndius, every other houndius in the area would target this houndius, and it was practically impossible to stop the war without losing some of them (you can’t push them away from each other, houndius use ranged attacks, they don’t lose aggro unloaded, etc.). The only way you could get them to stop without losing them was to make a hostile mobs target every houndius simultaneously, which isn’t realistically feasible.

Klei patched it via making it impossible for followers (like houndius/catapults) to target houndius in particular. As a side effect, it did accidentally make it so you can no longer use catapults to target houndius for farms. I highly doubt they did that intentionally, and was more of an accident when it came to fixing the above issue.
