10% is too low of a bonus to be noticible.

The new sword deals 10% more damage against shadows, while wearing both of the new armor pieces you also do 10% more damage against shadows. Wilson also can do 10% more damage depending on his skills, but this is mostly about the new items.

10% is just often not enough, unless you are fighting a boss the difference is sometimes not even measurable.

With a 10% bonus you won't save any hits from Horrors&Terrors, with 20% however you would save 1 hit making an actual difference.
Wearing 3 specific items just to get a 21% bonus is too restricting, the Sword on it's own should have a 20/25% bonus.
It also not being a set bonus for the armor would help too as wearing a whole armor set can be quite restricting.

With how expensive the Sword is atm I doubt anyone would even use it against the most common enemies but it would still certainly be better to make it's bonus more applicable.

Also just, The Math, for the curious;

(Bonus being 10% from just one of the three possible boosts)
*Ruins Clockwork, Nightmare Werepig and Ancient Guardian are currently not tagged as shadow, hopefully they'll add it.
**Deadly Nightshade takes heavily reduced damage, Tentacle that needs to be killed has 200HP, Brightshade Sword deals more due to Planar.
Wilson is the only one that gets a bonus against Lunar right now but I'm sure we'll get a shadow themed content update to parallel this one.
Strange that the Brightshade Armor makes you deal 10% more damage against Shadows but Dreadstone doesn't do the same for Lunar.

There'a this sword that is post CC content, and then there's glass cutters that can be crafted as soon as you find lunar island, cheaper, easier to amass, quite powerful (68 damage) and last twice as long fighting shadow enemies.

Klei really needs to get these late game gears a noticeable boost to justify their late game existence.

I hope Klei stops implementing weapons that are average or below average until a niche circumstance is met in which case the weapon becomes slightly above average. The strident trident being a painfully shining example of this and of course the new gear also struggles with the same issue.

I have never seen someone use the strident trident for combat, and I am doubtful that I will see people use the new gear if it remains in this state.

If Klei wants their hard to obtain and maintain equipment to be utilized more by players they need to crank up the numbers both in damage/resistance and durability, or introduce a new mechanic to make the equipment worthwhile (like dreadstone regeneration).

It doesn't feel fulfilling progressing through the game and getting side-grades of weapons you get very early on.

This. And I couldn't care less if these items will be useful for future content if most of them are useLESS for pre-CC content.

We have to stop judging updates based on “maybe it will be good in the future” people have been doing that for years and look how that’s turned out. The only gear that’s good beyond niche scenarios is the stuff from the terraria crossover. There are cool new biomes and mobs and the natural resources that are good like stone fruit, lightbugs, banana bushes, monkeytails etc but as far as new weapons/armors go they’re all just bland. More useful in certain niche scenarios as OP pointed out but nothing that really made waves besides the stuff that terraria gave us. How disappointing.
