New Monstrosity or Darkness Meter For Woodie Wereforms (or Lucy Meter for the sake of the theme)

Recommended Posts

- Abigail gets strong for simply existing.

- Wormwood gets strong for existing during spring.

- Wolfgang gets strong for doing chores.

- Wilson gets strong for simply being.

- Wigfrid gets strong for simply fighting more.

I suggest Woodie's wereforms should also get strong for being in wereforms. The longer he has stayed in wereforms, the strong his wereforms should be. Give the new meter a name, maybe Monstrosity Meter.

I can think of 2 ways of boosting wereforms: skill trees or stronger traits

Skill Tree

Spoiler

For every 4 (or 8) min spent being in wereforms, woodie gets a monster skill point which can be used to upgrade his wereforms. (per game, doesn't persist across servers.)

- for all forms, moving speed: +10%, +20% (can spend 2 points here)

- for all forms, duration: +20%, +40% (2 points)

- for all forms, sanity drain: decreases from -6/min to -4/min (1 point)

- beaver chopping: chopping down trees automatically dig up the trunk (1 point)

- moose:

  1. damage +10%, +20% (2 points).

  2. armor damage reduction: -2.5%, -5% (2 points)

  3. ability to brake during charging, by right-clicking during charging. (1 point)

  4. stun resistance recover faster: 100% (1 point)

or Stronger Traits

Spoiler

For every 4 or 8 min spent being in wereforms, woodie's Monstrosity Meter (mm) goes up by 1. Initially, the Monstrosity Meter is at 0.

For all wereforms: (max mm = 10)

- base speed bonus: mm x0.1 (max base speed 7 with x0.9, x1.1 or x1.4 boost based on forms)

- attack damage bonus: mm x1 (moose max damage 69.5)

- armor damage reduction bonus: mm x0.25% (max damage reduction 92.5%)

- bonus wereform duration: + mm x15 seconds (max additional duration 150s)

- extra sanity drain for going deeper into monstrosity: mm x0.2/min (max sanity drain -8/min increased from -6/min)

- every death decreases mm by 1.

at max level, wereforms can eat monster food and goodies off the ground.

I don't like the idea personally. Woodie's character design, in my eyes, should be focused on the relationship between him and Lucy, not his forms.

It's a good point.

But I feel the mechanism should be separated from thematic meanings. Because it's possible to combine nearly any mechanism to any meanings.

In this case, it could be:

Woodie is drawn closer to Lucy after every cursed accident. He find Lucy's companionship more and more natural and serene. He starts to find it natural to embrace Lucy's powers.

The skill points or bonus traits can be added to Lucy, meaning those effects only takes effect if Woodie carries Lucy on him.

The mechanism, or any mechanism would work in strengthen Lucy-Woodie relationship.

But it's another thing to judge if a mechanism is good. In that perspective, op's mechanism simply references to existing mechanisms with the assumption that if existing mechanisms are good enough for boosting many other characters, it should also be good enough to boost Woodie.
