World generation options for caves?

Currently, there is no way to customize the caves without manually editing the LUA files. This applies to the ruins and volcano as well. In addition to this, the caves in particular are very small and patchy, with large amounts of empty space and no distinct separation of biomes. I believe it would be beneficial to the cave experience to replace the current system with something more similar to DST. For reference, in DST you are able to customize the caves in the same way as the surface. The biomes are also much larger, with distinct differences between them. In DS, for example, there could be small patches of cave spiders mixed in with small patches of various colour mushtrees. In DST, each mushtree colour is confined to its own biome, as are the cave spiders. Overall, the method used in DST seems like a more logical way of generating caves.
