but my issue is that nothing goes that far into their pasts, I want to know how such a distinguished gentleman scientist ended up in a desolate abandoned house. I want to know more about further in his past. his quote for flowers suggests an aristocrat-like background. 

how did Maxwell find the Codex? where? 

how did Woodie contract 3 curses? that's never said, just how he controls them.

tbh i prefer if woodie never gets his background because i doubt that klei will go the dark route with his axe lucy. The tone has change from DS...

There's still trailers with darker tones like Wendy's short, so they're still perfectly capable if they choose to. Also, none of the characters have egregiously dark backstories in the first place, Webber got turned into a spider human hybrid and banished by his parents, Warly was sent to the constant and away from his mother, Willow was an abused orphan who burned her orphanage down, etc. They're "dark" but Klei never presents them in a very edgy egregious way. So the tone change from DS wouldn't be much of a factor in my eyes.

ye but i doubt they will choose to give him a "the shining" kind of back story. Which is okey, never was said that the 1st idea when they made woodie would be that neither they must do it now

also wont be bad if he is keept as a joke character with maaaany misteries and 0 answeres (kinda broke already with walter's short)
