You can't get it back until you kill them , they will not slow down even though they are shown carrying the statue and continue to work as normal. They cant give you the statue either. I don't think this is intended ; If it is intended, I think it should be reconsidered because it is really annoying to watch a servant steal the statue and run far away , forcing you to slowly carry it back to the desired position.
