Wortox mini refresh?

While some takes might sound a bit biased but overall the character even for being a DLC character he's prolly the worst to play in the long run. People on forums during his release were screaming about him probably breaking the game or calling that 'DST is becoming pay to win' or some nonsense have put him into an awkward spot to where there's much stronger DLC or non DLC character compared to him when moving towards lategame. His downsides in lategame are very harsh and his kit doesn't really compensate to the problems he faces.

-Eating souls gives 19 hunger and makes you lose 5 sanity, which in theory it's kinda supposed to be his main food source or has to be split between normal foods and that but it is annoying to manage later on.
-Always at low sanity, while tam fixes the issue it still doesn't compensate the fact that he can barely sustain himself without bigger amounts of farms to feed on.
-He only teleports and AoE heals. That's it. I think his heal was nerfed during the release from what I remember so if many people are around they'd get lesser benefits? Healing is nice especially when in self sustaining and teleportation can be neat to get out of situations or kite enemies with but the other problem that's related to all of him is that:
-His soul cap only stacks up to 20 and if it's any or above he gets stunned for a bit and loses a high amount of sanity.

While he's hypermobile and has nice sustain, Wortox as a character struggles with sanity, time wasting on making farms to feed yourself or hunting for smaller prey to get souls all the time while his limited amount of abilities are practically replaceable by anything that can already be found. His souls doesn't make statues to be carried faster, his whole character is of being a sort of a naughty prankster yet there's nothing even in his kit to either scare mobs with or anything. At best he's just good for quick travel early.

I think he needs a reason to why people would wanna play him lategame. Or at least something to empower him while at it. For things that I could suggest and either as a solution for a fix:

-Have him some ability to distract mobs with, either his souls would summon small numbers of critters he had slain to fight for him for a bit or he'd summon some sort of soul firecrackers to scare the mobs while at it.

-Krampus sack increasing his soul cap or without it just either by consuming boss souls he'd grow more sustainable. Either him coming closer to enjoying the foods you could cook making his stomach digest that better and/or making souls more sustainable for him as he gets his greedy self to grow stronger and collect all the souls he wants. Or just makes his souls much stronger to every boss defeated till some cap where he's at his full potential.

-Have souls not drain his hunger, but make healing drain his sanity per use. It may sound weird but you often don't need to heal as much as you should if you wear armor. While it would probably better to wear armor in that case it would provide a good reason to if you don't wanna drain your sanity completely.

Those are my ideas, discuss yes no maybe whatever your thoughts are.

if you look at the characters that are most played, and some of the most liked ones you find something they have in common:
Their weakness becomes completely irrelevant very fast

Widfrig needing meat is inconsequential in a world of meatballs

Wendy's damage penalty doesnt compare to abigails versatility and the ability to use a beefalo to ignore it.

Wanda's Glass cannon nature is a not an issue when she haves the strongest weapon in the game.

If you look at wortox, the teleport and healing are very insignificant perks to compare to his downsides, he needs more

one solution would be reworking the way souls work, make  it so he doesnt use hunger meter, but soul meter instead, and while food gives some of it since it use living things to make, it barely matters. and remove the sanity drain from souls, this means he needs souls to survive, but doing so dont make him insane all the time, in encourage him to fight in the same way widfrig wants to fight for some meat

they can also instead give him a new set of crafts he can use, soul crystals, soul lights (that give a good amount of light but no heat and drain sanity), soul revives? imagine him giving some of his souls to revive others, to heal them and to refresh wild life? allow him to heal beefalos?

giving him more tools and craft would make him feel more useful.

To add to this abigial gives a damage buff while fighting alongside her making her deal higher damage than the average character rather than less which honestly is still a baffling change to me

Feel like him and Walter kinda share this spot sadly...

Personally I don't feel Wortox is bad in the context of pre refreshs he's just been hard power creeped by the rest of the cast.

walter have some key differences, he can tame a beefalo and turn his one massive downside into nothing to worry about (damage conversion to sanity drain) but i will always argue that shouldnt be the strategy on a character that has a build in ride on woby
Walter also have something wortox lacks, way way more tools to his disposal
he can make a cheaper tent for others to use
farm feathers from birds with ease
his own hat
zero sanity drain for a large portion of the game
utility ammo even if it sucks
inventory space on woby that persist as a ghost
basically while his downside dont quite make it up, i would argue small adjustments can turn the tides for walter while wortox NEED new stuff to do other than group healing and a teleport

Can't say I really disagree with you on any of this Walter overall just needs his ammo specifically tweaked many the non damage ones and the cursed rounds I do also agree Wortox would benefit from more being added to his kit rather than changing how it works I don't think he's in a particularly horrible spot tho which is why I'd rank him near Walter currently even if Walter has more much more utility than him currently.

That being said I also hate that playing with a beefalo is the ideal way to play Walter and wish they made Woby a more viable choice or made him going it solo without a beefalo a better option in some way.
