goatt
What if we have cave river segments and underground water puddles? (River segments concept in spoiler) Spoiler Why choose river segments over regular surface river system? From game design point of view, adopting the entire surface river system will make cave wormhole to atrium and atrium maze completely optional. River segments give dev full control of where boats / bridges are allowed and where forbidden. In this case, areas containing previous civilizations shouldn't have rivers from waterfall from surface cracks. Such areas include the Archive, the Ruins, and the Atrium. River segments enable kelps in cave, which is in synergy with cave life. It also enables ocean fishing. How about hostile mobs and other dangers fallen from the surface cracks during earthquake? That would add the need to build a defense line at river segments and I think would be fun. (Underground water puddle concept in spoiler) Spoiler unfrozen frozen Underground water puddles are formed by water from cave cracks (similar to nightmare fissures). They usually located on paths to other biomes so that players have to walk past them. Passing them will get wetness, which will cause problem in early spring and late autumn. They also reduce walking speed. The puddles freeze during winter and form tiny icebergs which enables ice collecting in cave. It will add ice to limited number of fillers available in cave. Maybe allow the puddle cracks to emit hostile mobs? Maybe as counterpart of frog / mosquito vs ponds? Maybe something more dangerous occasionally during some special events? I would like to see cave ponds to be completely replaced by something different. They are mostly decorative anyways. What do you think? What other ideas do you have? What byproduct and side effects should come with them? Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/138329-cave-water-brainstorm/ Share on other sites
ArubaroBeefalo
would be cool if we get ancler fish so we can fish for glowberries, SW bioluminescence, creepy jellyfish, water creatures affected by the nightmere cycle... SomebodyRandom
If the caves get some of the ocean due to openings in the ceiling, then I believe this can also allow for unique ocean content from things from the caves going up to the surface on top of the cave content this could bring.
