Couple questions about after death

After I die is my old base/large fire pit/science center supposed to be there? I thought it was but my base is gone.

Also, do the items you drop on death only last for the next character? I tabbed out to help my daughter with something while running back to where I died and I think I forgot to pause it and I died again and my items are not where I died when making it back with the third character. I had just made a spear too =(

Once you die, all items you have made or dropped are gone for good. You keep your research points and research that you have done, but everything else is gone, so you start mostly fresh every adventure.

Oh o,k thank you. Items dropping like they do on death made me think I could run back there to get them.

Sadly no, it is just part of the animation. It makes surviving all the more important.

You can recover your dropped things if you build a meat effigy and resurrect in-game. If you die and start over at day 1 your stuff is gone for good.
