Weird crash related bug

So, my PC just crashed for whatever reason during the game, might or might not be game-related. However, when rebooting and restarting my world, the game had lost very specific bits of saves. The day and world were still the same, but it had forgotten my character, learned crafting recipes, precrafted stuff, any items I had and it un-revealed the map again. I was in the caves, when the crash happened and on restarting, I got both the "Server generating world" and the "Connecting" message, was taken to the character menu and got spit out of the Overworld portal with nothing in my items and all recipes unlearned. My changes to the world luckily seem to be the same except for the character related stuff. Rolling back seems like the game is trying to send me to the caves, failing and sending me to character selection again. You could now say "Well if your PC crashed that is the actual problem", but what the heck happened to the game saves during that? Can anyone explain?
